@@thegroove14 I caught that too, nice touch that DeNiro & Scorsese are involved with this project too. I also got a Falling Down vibe from this trailer too.
And that is perfectly understandable, I'm sick of all these shared Universe movies. I would rather them just be solo movies with the occasional crossovers.
@@zackrose6261 plus after so many years, and so many Avengers movies, I think people are getting a little tired of that action field routine. People are probably ready to see something more like this, or a noir style Batman film, or just something that's deeper.
@@ethannaler4121 That is an unpopular opinion. I'd say the majority of people like movies that can establish universe and branching stories instead of a movie just being this one off thing that leads no where.
@@DannyIMCF I disagree, I think many are getting tired of that same old formula. And I think in the next couple of years we will really start to see that. I still watch some of the Marvel movies, but ultimately I've grown completely bored of them, even though they are distinctly different movies they all are the same formula. The same tone.
It looks like an Oscar worthy, independent, arthouse film that is a psychological thriller and study into the psychosis of a mentally ill man and his downward spiral into madness and darkness that will eventually lead into his transformation into the Joker due to his being beaten down by society. Which it is. Also executive produced by Martin Scorsese, Bradley Cooper and directed by Todd Phillips. Adapted from the killing Joke, is an Elseworlds story and takes inspiration from Raging Bull, Kings of Comedy and Taxi Driver.
Where he is dancing down the steps in the street is like Jack Nicholson's dancing down the steps in the art gallery plus the bit where he laughs out loud at the stand up club is called Pogo's which is the name of the serial killer John Wayne Gacy.
@@GreenWolf2k they always have been. Joker isn't set in the dceu. Believe it or not many of the best filmmakers don't want to make MCU or DC films. This imprint allows filmmakers who want to make a one-off film come in and are allowed to make anything they want to. They don't have to follow any kind of canon. That's why Hamada deemed the budgets for these tier of films be pretty small.
@@mjareacts2731 I'm willing to bet that won't happen. Walter Hamada is pretty set on what he wants to do, and he wants to attract other prestige filmmakers to this format. Doing that jeopardizes his ambitions in this regard.
Honestly I think that's a good thing being a standalone film means. It doesn't have to worry about World building. Which means he gets to stand on its own merits. It's way too soon to tell but it might have a chance of being an Oscar contender. It's clear still you might be thinking that positioning the film closer to Oscar season in October.
No, it's not going to be fun!!!!! Fun is the wrong word to describe a movie like this, and why does everybody constantly use the word fun to describe every single comic book movie anyway? Fun is guardians of the Galaxy, this will be an entirely different experience.
@@mjareacts2731 most movies aim to entertain, it seems like this film also aims to do that, although in a more "refreshing way". Its fun. The Human Centipede is disturbing. Joker is fun.
that terrifying part you guys mention when he try to pull his mouth up does fit to the song from the makeup test footage with the line: i should laugh, but i cry.
The fact that it's being released during the awards season probably means they think this will be special. Almost feels like an indie movie perfect for one of the best actors of our time.
I love this because it seems like they are gonna humanize the joker, explore a part we havnt seen of him before see every little thing that scrapes at him to the point where we see his breaking point and lose his sanity
This movie is it’s own thing set in the 80’s and Phoenix does not like doing sequels and has said he would not take this role if they tried to rope him into sequels this is a one and done character study really
Ali Brennan ok but how are their ages relevant to that? I don’t understand how you got from one to the other. I agree, if we had the choice Phoenix would be the better one but age doesn’t factor there, Phoenix doesn’t do franchises or multi film contracts so this is the next best thing.
The man running for mayor condemning Arthur/Joker`s crimes is Thomas Wayne(Brett Cullen) who`s based on his Earth-3 incarnation who is far less sympathetic than the versions of The Character we`ve seen before, the talk show host is Robert DeNiro and the boy(Dante Pereira-Olsen) is in fact playing a young Bruce Wayne. Also in this universe Batman and Joker may be half-brothers!
After watching this I wouldn’t mind a Batman Video game set in the late 70s would be a great setting. I really hope we see the viewpoint of the police detectives chasing the joker maybe there’s an interesting character in there 🤷♂️
Excel I want someone new, someone we know nothing about. Harvey Bullock is an interesting character but I don’t think the detective in the teaser is Harvey. I could’ve wrong haven’t seen any new on the detectives or any characters in general
Guy on the left has a lot to say for someone who doesn't know what he's talking about. Maybe wind back the verbal diarrhea a bit! Apart from all the guff and speculation, not being able to tell Robert De Niro from Harvey Keitel is a big error!
The batman and jokers origin story is so similar, loses a loved one, but one decides to stop this chaos and the other embraces the Chaos, so the batman literally is other side of the coin of joker and vice versa
I believe his first kill is going to be the people on the train who are the same ppl who beat him up in the alley. Then we see him run away scared but once he gets to a safe bathroom he begins to feel proud and dance.
The guy on the tv is thomas wayne in the movie he's a donald trump business man and the antagonist and the little boy is bruce if you check the casting list the kid is labeled young Bruce Wayne. The guy on the train is also thomas wayne
Not gonna lie, the first time I seen this trailer, I almost cried a little. The whole tone of the trailer, right down to the music....it makes you feel bad for the Joker. In this version, you see a man who is just trying to get by...to take care of his mom and every day....life figuratively and quite literally beats him down. You see a man trying to smile and fight through the pain and troubles but slowly unravels and breaks. The way they portray the Joker here, it makes him more relatable and there for you feel more sympathetic towards him. I am not really a big fan of all the Marvel/DC movies and what not but this is one I am going to definitely have to go see when it comes out.
I’m convinced that this story of the Joker will be some inspiration for whatever Joker we see go up against Batman in THIS particular universe. They’re, DC, probably just seeing what fans bite to before they commit. This looks really fucking good though.
I’m not concerned about this not being in the DCEU if anything I think that’s what’s gonna make this DC movie all the more special and enjoyable. The only thing is and will happen is if Joaquin Phoenix’s joker blows us all out of the park. Who the hell are they gonna have be the joker in the DCEU that could hold a candle to this?
The little kid is the actor playing young bruce wayne. Joker is taking care of his sick mother, pretty sure once she dies he'll lose all of his sanity between getting beat up etc try to watch a trailer multiple times or do a little research to help not wife or son. He's also a failed comedian. Thats the jokes he was writing. It basically is somewhat going of The animated Killing Joke.
It's his mother. That's fucking Robert DeNiro. The kid is Bruce Wayne. The movie is drawing on Scorsese's early work. It's set in the 80's. It's going to be rated hard R. Don't smoke meth, kids.
Calling it now; he’s crying when he’s forcing his smile backstage, so I’m guessing his mother died and he has to give a stand-up act, so he’s forcing himself to put on a happy face. Then it’s gonna go poorly and he’ll spiral further.
In DC, there are 3 separate Jokers in total. One only cares about the money, another finds comedy in committing crimes, and the other Joker is just a psycho.
This isnt gonna be a joker reboot. Hes in his 30's in this film thats set in the 80's. In the suicide squad universe that would make this joker about 70 years old.
@@bunnythebunbalboa oh my god really? thats so cool :D i'm so excited for this movie i hope they do it really creepy to fit the joker but it seems that's what they are going for, (i hope this isn't another venom situation where they make a antihero/villain basically a hero)
@@nikopteros1659 Also,writer/director Todd Phillips has hinted that Arthur/Joker and Bruce who as we all know will grow up to become Batman and fight Arthur`s villainous alterego are paternal half-brothers!
@@AspieMediaBobby Dude stop hyping me with interesting innovative takes on classic beloved characters THE MOVIE HASN'T COME OUT YET!!! (thats is interesting though we will have to see how it turns out)
Excelent trailer, just one thing that i think is good, is that it doesnt seems that will be a "fall into toxic waste". I really hope for this recreation to be good
@Renegade Media Group Dear God, do you people research info before watching trailers? Harvey Keitel? The guys son? No, that was CLEARLY ROBERT DENIRO, and the kid is BRUCE WAYNE. 🤦🏿♂️
No we didn't, we went into this blind. Why would we do research beforehand all for it to ruin our experience? We did the research after and I corrected myself on it. You know it's easy to take someones first impressions and come in after the fact and trash them for not knowing immediately. That's not just petty, that's just sad.
The sad thing about the Joker in this movie is that he TRIED to be good, he TRIED to do honest work, he TRIED and TRIED and TRIED again, and the society made fun of Him, not with him. They mocked his disability, a thing he has no control over, they beat him, they humiliated them without the care in the world if it's going to hurt the man or not. The Society and Media created a Monster out of a Good Man. They created a Vilan that will haunt them for as long as he breathes air, and even after him, there will be ones like him who will follow in his footsteps. This movie is about a man broken by the very society and media that were supposed to help him. Joker is not someone you can root for, or at least I hope you don't, but he's someone you can understand. He was not born evil, he was made evil by... Us. If not for all the evil he experienced from the people around him, he would have been an entirely different man. No one in real life will become the Joker, but there are plenty of people similar enough to Arthur who will become Like Joker, because of the failings of our Society, of Us, and the Media. They will become evil, they will become murderers, they will become terrorists, they will become a massive threat to the very society that forces them onto that path. Joker is evil, and society can thank themselves for creating this Dragon they now cannot slay...
Thats Thomas Wayne Bullock isnt around yet The child is Bruce Wayne Robert Deniro is the talk show host (All confirmed) IMDB is an amazing thing👍lol Inspirations: The Killing Joke Batman: Year One(Thomas wayne campaigning and murdered) Scorsese (taxi, the king of comedy) One flew over the coockoos nest 70s/80s dramas/art house John Wayne Gacy The Dark Knight Batman '89 This movie seems to be a perfect almagam of these inspirations Im calling Oscar Nom/Win Mark my words!
Joaquin Phoenix said in an interview that he didn’t sign a multi picture deal because he doesn’t want to be bound down, and he also refused previous DC and marvel offers due to that.
Remember folks this is a Villain movie. Not a movie where the villain wants to be a hero. Not a movie where the villain is an anti-hero. But a true bonified honest to God Villain movie.
I think I would first blame the creators of the Suicide Squad movie before Jared Leto because 1) Leto didn't even get the appropriate amount of screen time to make a proper judgment on him as a Joker, 2) the creators are the ones who set the script up and decided to make him care about Harley (though he still gave her fuckin electro shock therapy) so I'm not gonna blame Leto for that if he was just trying to follow the script, and 3) most of the reviews of his character I saw were mostly comparing him to Heath Ledger which is like comparing apples and oranges.
I personaly think that all of dc should take place during the 70s 80s because it brings out the way gotham was intended to be like and i feel like it works well with that universe
They've talked about it at the Warner Bros. HQ. I mean Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill are both gone from their roles as Batman and Superman. Plus Geoff Johns has talked about it at great length. We will have to see how things play out, but as it stands this seems very likely they're going to redact and redo some things, hence a soft reboot.
