Problem is, CBS, Paramount and Abrams, Kurtzman et al don't know how to write Trek and only care about new audiences (they've gone on record saying this) so they neither desire to, nor are capable of, acquiring well-written Trek stories and if they did buy them they'd ruin them.
if this had a bigger budget and tried to be a bit more like firefly for example it would probably make it. I love the fact people put time and effort into this and many old faces came back for this one.
THIS is what CBS should do, not that "another timelinerebootrequel" they want to air in automn... THIS IS AWESOME!! I just wished there's a way that it could be Star Trek: Renegades. But Renegades itself, especially with THIS cast, is GREAT!! :)
I agree...for a medium budget self made show with past trek actors...this is great! I really wish they mad e new show and stop with the before kirk timeline. I know for a fact the new cbs show will be trash!
to be fair, +Robd collector, after seeing the 3 trailers, EVERYONE knows it's gonna be trash. (altough - "trash" might still be a far too good adjective to describe that STD (what a fitting abrasive, isn't it?)
Remember, on the production team is forbidden to call it Star Trek - but not the fans! Trump hasn't totally destroyed the Constitution yet, so you are free to go right on ahead and call it Star Trek. That's what I call it when I tell anyone about it. I just pretend that this movie is a code production created by Chekhov and Tuvok to deceive the Cabal and Section whatever-number-it-is.
I like the Mos Eisley Cantina approach. If the whole film/series needs to be unbranded Not-Trek anyhow then you might as well recklessly abandon all attempts to religiously emulate consistency with Star Trek canon. Go all out, don't be constrained by the setting, be creative, show us something new. Another Not-Trek fan film isn't going to go very far, it'll always be obstructed and limited by official Star Trek developments ... but original and interesting sci-fi backed by established sci-fi (Trek) people can offer a lot of potential.
The part where Inara dies was gut wrenching to me as well as Manu’s character.😔Wished they hadn’t killed them off. Terry Ferrell still looks amazing! And was so freaking happy when I saw Robert Beltran!! I did a dance!
This series is a drug & I am completely addicted... PLEASE , all you beautiful and absolutely brilliant folks involved, (too many to list, such great actors/actresses etc...), I NEED more, have mercy, PLEASE keep these episodes coming... This is a Star Trek EVERYONE can be proud of as it will inspire generation after generation just as the "Original Series" Star Trek did/is/continues to do. "Renegades" really does represent the heart of the Star Trek franchise, in my humble opinion, (believe me, I've seen everything Star Trek so many times, including THIS series' episode & a half....:). Otherwise, all my Love & Respect to the cast & crew. THANK YOU, for EVERYTHING....
Outstanding stuff guys! Even though you were forced to remove the Trek references Renegades holds it own and delivers a powerful story and punch! I understand you had to make some cast shuffling due to budget and 'other' concerns. Yet the Fixer Character is a regrettable cut. He fit into crew / story line rather well. Acting superb! Graphics and Story superb! An Fantastic to see Old Familiar Faces. Can't wait to see further installments! Bravo Tim Russ. I sort of wish CBS would all the sudden just dump what they are working on - and air this instead - it would get way better ratings - I want to watch real Star Trek - not a vapid action movie (!)

How is it that Star Trek Continues is able to literally duplicate TOS much less make references without CBS coming after them? This is very well done by the way.
CBS/Paramount DID go after them. It was only recently that the courts decided the issue and a list of restrictions were imposed. Somewhere between the Renegades full episode and this one. One of the restrictions Is fan films are only allowed to be 20 minutes long now, hence the shortness of this episode. Thankfully the decision wasn't retroactive or we would have lost all the fine fan stories that came before. Never forget how petty and greedy CBS/Paramount is.

Cheezus... Nichols, koenig, manu, Farrell, russ, and lofton... So far... Gonna have to rewatch to catch others. This is amazing. *Quick edit: or, I could just read the cast at the end. That'd be easier but not as much fun. I just saw Eisenberg's name is the cast but I missed his character. Definitely rewatching this.
I'm glad you went with the separate universe approach, rather than trying to stick with Trek and the legal restrictions involved, including the time constraints. You've got too much of a good thing going to quit after 30 minutes. I loved the shout-out to the Star Wars Mos Eisley Cantina, too.
To all the Star Trek Stars who have ventured where no one has gone before... we miss all of you and hope to see you on the other side. This should have been made into a full series with the budget of a Star Trek series. Much better than Discovery despite the special effects budget. Proof positive that a good story trumps the special effects.
The truest successor for Gene Roddenberry's vision. Well done. Please keep this going. Everyone out there complaining that it just felt off because you were protecting yourselves from copyright infringement by CBS/Paramount, you all know precisely what's really going on and it's thinly veiled at best. That's Nog and Jadzia all day and twice on Sunday, and I love it. Fantastic work.
I just wanted to chime in and say, "Amazing!". While some may linger on the separation from Star trek, i think it has improved the overall production. For one, the ship designs are far better, especially the "Rigelians". You don't need to be tied to a franchise to tell a good story, and this has been a very entertaining watch! I am looking forward to part 2 with much anticipation! -DF
What separation ? This is exactly what should of happened after Voyager. Also if this could of been done with a shoe string budget why couldn't the big studios pull this off?

Most of these people can act if properly motivated, it just looks like a case of poor direction to me. Look no further than the old school Star Trek phase II production. When they had the guy who wrote the script for TNG The Child retool his story and direct the episode it came out very well.
I loved this episode, I've been following this ever since I'd heard about Renegades before it initially was released and I've been following it as much as I could, I'd immediately subscribed, and set the all notifications on, but somehow over the years that all notifications got turned off, that's why I'm just now watching this episode over a year after it was released. I definitely hope to see more. :)

I love sci-fi like this. Not just Star this or Star that or certain brands/series. I can really get wrapped in some good space/futuristic science fiction. And from what I've seen so far from Renegades, I'm hooked :)

I like how Chakotay is running the bar inside a cloaked asteroid filled with criminals in the middle of nowhere, as if the whole Maquis thing wasn't "renegade" enough XD
Is CBS, or Paramount trying to hide, or supress this work? My goodness, this puts the movies, and the recent television show into the dust bin. The story and the acting, direction \set design, is extraordinary. Why is this not on network television? 40 plus years I have followed Star Trek, and this is the correct direction for that Universe. Who the hell is in charge of the networks, because they all need to be removed. Perhaps, we the people need to crowd fund a new network, and allow the people that are creating this level of content bigger budgets, and creative freedom to bring real entertainment to the masses. Even with CBS/Paramount's asinine restrictions, this was still better Star Trek than anything Abrams and/or the Discovery producers could come up with!!
GOOD JOB, nice to finally have a follow-up episode, as this was a great concept, and NOT any poor mans' star trek, star wars, etc. a really good unique series.
I finally caught the NOT STAR TREK DISCOVERY, then Picard and oh my 😱 beyond trying to hurt, destroy and tank another ICON 😢 it's a terrible bastardization of something special with special people. Add, don't take away or try to re-write. If your goal is to just to change it; get your own ideas already. I agree that this is the one that should have been chose. Good to see you all again 👍 To bad so many have lost their way 😞
Seeing Walter Koenig and Nichelle Nichols together-I presume for the last time on camera-made this worth watching. Captain Resting Bitch Face, not so much.
Beautiful job of creating something entirely different from anything else in science fiction! Guessing that Manu's character will show up again seeing he was sent out to space in a giant bubble!
I'm very excited to see Trek actors again, everything is alright but some issues with graphic CIG visual effects perhaps this is Low budget that's why? New roles for Trek actors need more character complexity not by adding frustration expression only it sounds very intentional, anyway it's better than frozen old trek stories where we heard of 1k times.
Aron, I miss you. I would have loved to have seen Nog being a Commanding Officer of the Defiant. It was awesome to see all the Trek actors. Seeing Farrell and Beltran was awesome. Although, to me, anything before Enterprise is my kind of Trek. Maybe one of these fan films could feature Captain Wesley Crusher. I like the idea of a Captain Ezri. Nicole de Boer is Canadian, after all.
I love all of the Star Trek fan films but so happy that you guys have the balls to have your story take place in the future and not a prequel. Also very sad to see your production be nurtured by the greed of asshats at CBS. I want to say to all who made this film from production to the actors we all know and love, thank you :)
Cant say that this is to my tastes. In fact, I probably won't finish it. I will however say that it is really, really nice to see Checkov and Uhura having their last hurrah. 2 great characters whose actors deserved more success after their star trek careers finished. Kudos to the creators. Impressive work given your probable budget. Keep it up.
I just came across the show I don't know how I have miss it but it is a uplifting to see some of the old Star Trek members interacting with some of the Star Trek members of the show I love every bit of it and I wish it would be more of it than the stupid movies that comes out on you to feeders because this is a series that we need to see on RU-vid I hope somebody will produce more
Paramount wanted Fast &Furious in space, it is what sells tickets (they think).. And honestly, the last ST movie was really not that bad and more trek than the previous two.
This really seems a whole lot more like Star Wars than Star Trek to be honest. Though the number of previous Star Trek actors they can get for this thing is pretty damn impressive.

Its just so sad. I agree with Jack, and Mike. Its disgusting how paramount treats the trek fans, I recon we can decide how we want Our StarTrek. Me personally, I don`t think I`ll ever watch any StarTrek picture, that paramount has anything to do with, from this point forward. Its my little protest in a way, but the new StarTrek movies I never found that good anyway :3

that's true. i've stopped buying the merchandise because i don't want to give them money. and i'd rather download or stream episodes and movies then buy them now, where as before i would of bought them without a second thought. they've shown sufficient contempt for their fans. i'd rather spend the money on star wars now. at least they embrace their fandom.

I've been looking forward to this fan series, based on Star Tre- oops! I've been looking forward to this original sci-fi property, and glad to finally see Part 1!
Lets just everyone try to enjoy it for what it is without comparing it to anything. And if it does remind you of some other program you enjoyed, well then the writer's cleverness just makes it that much better. See! being a Star Trek fan doesn't mean you're doomed to be a whiny biatch for eternity; there's a bright way to look at everything!
Can someone fill me in on a few things I am confused about. Maybe I missed something... 1. Why is Icheb now being called Jaron 2. Why does Icheb/Jaron have his nose implant from the borg removed but a new one near the temple on his head. 3. Why are they saying Confederation instead of Federation. 4. Was Robert Beltran supposed to be just playing the bar owner or Chakotay? It seems like they would make him a little different if he is to be a whole new character but if he is Chakotay, where is his tattoo? Also does anybody find any of these things weird: 5. In Episode 1 it was important that the lady Doctor's hologram be brought back at the end-- the one she accidentally killed. Then without even seeing the characters, they die in the beginning of the episode. I am wondering if they decided to back out of the show or what? Any ideas? 6. In Episode 1, the Doctor is wearing glasses. I have watched OTS, TNG, and VOY beginning to end and don't remember glasses-- though I could be wrong. It seems like with all the technology they would have really easy corrective eye surgery (since they can mend broken bones in a few seconds. 7. The bar scene in this episode had a lot of "non-human like" type of aliens. A lot of really extreme ones. It seems like on the TV series they avoided them (probably due to cost) but this one scene was almost just crazy with how many there were. Not trying to be nitpicky... just things I thought of as I watched this. And if anyone can explain in I missed something with the first four points I made it would be appreciated.
