Today, 95% of the electricity in Barbados is generated from imported fossil fuel.
The government of Barbados has a set 100% renewable energy target by 2030.
Due to the intermittent nature of solar and wind power, this 100% renewable energy vision can only be achieved with renewable baseload power plants such as RSB.
Located at Harrow Plantation, in the parish of Saint Philip, Renewstable © RSB is multi-megawatt power plant producing firm power from an intermittent renewable energy source (wind) and massive energy storage in the form of green hydrogen generated on site. It will supply 16 000 inhabitants with clean, resilient and stable electricity.
RSB is committed to promoting the dual use of solar energy plus agriculture on the site. A large-scale Blackbelly sheep farming facility (1830 sheep) will be accommodated with both direct sheep grazing and grass harvesting within the solar power plant and surrounding green areas. Sheep husbandry will graze on the facilities in order to maintain a dual usage of the land. Sheep farming included will bring local lamb meat production, saving vital foreign exchange, and local skin production set to take off in the export markets thanks to the high scale of the project.
