I don't have any fantastical boots or a chieftain's vest, but I will have a great kilt soon. My whole kit so far is pretty minimalist, with just a Jacobite shirt, a brown and black day sporran, a black belt with a silver buckle, black hose, and the kilt itself with tartan flashes. Simple and to the point.
I am into Scottish Highland. For a single outfit with all accessories is costing about 350.00 USA. This venture is not cheap. Expect to spend quite a bit for this. I'm sure this host may have mentioned that. If not, be sure about the size as it is not like the size of jeans. They are measured from the belly, not the waist. I am 34 waist, but require 36. Wearing kilts is fantastic. It feels like a dress but it functions as a kilt. I have added many accessories and designer nylons so that when I lift my skirt, they get an eyeful. Guys love it and the girls are very responsive. It really is an attention getter. Sport your kilt as I do and women do respond to this and always be confident. They love it.
son of sandlar boots are the best for fair i have been working Ohio Ren fair since 96 and they are the best boots sold for Ren fairs that are super comfy and durable
Ballock Dirk at Ren Faire, no piper Dirk. I see too many piper Dirks. I’d avoid anything that looks like a modern sporran, including the daywear sporran (go regular pouch, rob roy sporran, etc). Not to nitpick too much, but historically the sash was not strictly a woman’s garment. Look at the Clan Colquhoun historical image and you’ll see what I mean. It’s a dude wearing it. Then you have the pipers in parade.
question? I have to wear compression socks up to the knee, they have a texture, and look like sport socks. Socks worn with the kilt look similar, but would it be feasible to wear the kilt sock over the compression sock?
