This series of Trails character studies, particularly the Enforcers in this case, is an in-depth analysis of the upright and reverse tarot archetypes, represented by the major arcana the Enforcers represent. Let's dive into how the tarot applies to the character growth (or lack thereof) of characters from the Trails series, or Kiseki set of games as it's known in Japanese.
This video focuses on Renne, Ouroboros Enforcer XV, thanks to those who voted in the Patreon poll~
Video will have SPOILERS of the Trails in the Sky games, Zero and Ao no Kiseki, and even a bit from Cold Steel
Next video will focus on Estelle, an excellent character and great example of a female protagonist in games.

Renne is one of my favorite characters in all of Trails. It's amazing to see how much she grows over the course of the series (so far). What part/aspect of Renne's journey has stood out to you the most? I'd love to know! Right now I'm still working on the 1k sub special video. Will be doing a video on mythological symbolism of Fuuka's personas from P3 for Fuuka week coming up the week after this one! Then I'll resume work on the second Trails character analysis since two characters tied for the first poll ehehh....Also big thanks to the patrons who waited SO long for this video

I came here after seeing your Estelle is Bestelle video. My favorite part of Renne's journey is that she's a display of what love and compassion can do for a tortured soul. It was an amazing moment when at the end of Trails from Zero after helping defeat Joachim, PaterMater had no other conclusion to make in its logic circuits than to decide Estelle and Joshua was the best thing for Renne and dropped her into Estelle's arms. But that's not the best part. Aside from the contributions Renne has made for the heroes during the Crossbell and Cold Steel arc, the most personal moment imo was during Hajimari no Kiseki. Spoilers for that game, but I can't imagine a fan like you not playing that from the get-go given that there's a spreadsheet translation available. In Hajimari, one of the new main characters introduced are a pair of former assassins named Swin and Nadia. (3 and 9 in their in-game novel). They team up with a mysterious figure called C, and they begin to unravel a bigger mystery in Crossbell. Partway through their journey, Renne joins them. Things go hunky-dory for a while, until their former boss comes to drag Swin and Nadia back into their old organization. He goes all out on the shame and guilt-trip that they're forever broken and can never fit in a normal or an upright life. Well, Renne was there when it happened and she's *exactly* the sort of person who can say "screw that noise!" with utmost conviction. (It also ties in her tarot representation that the Reversed Devil means liberation!) Her presence and words where the exact sort of emotional and psychological help Swin and Nadia needed to fight off their guilt and their former boss. Renne was living proof that anyone can live a second chance, and represent the exact kind of hope Swin and Nadia needed. And since Swin, Nadia and Renne will be players in the next Kuro arc, the good they'll do in the future can be credited to Estelle. Love and compassion can be payed forward. Renne has just begun doing that. It's almost humbling on just how far-reaching Estelle's legacy of kindness will go.

Pater-Mater is a real boss, I think without him (her?), I feel that Renne would have never have been able to come back from the brink. Pater Mater provided the support that many others would not, or could not, give. Considering all Renne has been through, it's understandable why her persona moulded into what we see in Sky SC. The fact she's able to accept her inner desires, despite convincing herself that such a life never could have existed based on her own experiences, is testament to how well written the character is, and it's all the better that she finally finds what she truly has wanted all along. Loved this analysis video, I normally don't look in to tarot readings or the like, but now, I just want more! Keep it up, Lady! :)

I played Zero and Ao before sc and the third (I wanted to get ready for cs 3) and at the end of zero, I'm going "what? she's a sociopathic killer, she doesn't deserve this ending!" and then I saw her door in the third, and i'm crying my eyes out, and going "SHE DESERVES EVERY BIT OF HAPPINESS SHE CAN GET!"

I took the Pater Mater handing Renne over to Joshua and Estelle as Renne revealing her true feelings in spite of her words since they were connected telepathically. I also really loved how they wrote off the "character(?)" of Pater Mater sacrificing itself to save Renne as not only was it getting rid of a surrogate parental figure she also treated Pater Mater as her personal toy of sorts and it was a great visualization of how much she grew as a person.

Amazing analysis! Renne's story has always brought tears to my eyes - the way Estelle's affection melted Renne's heart is one of the best story arcs in all the games I've played. I still remember when I fought her in Sky SC for the first time - I was like "alright im ready to kick her ass and put her in her place!" then she S-crafts at the start of the fight and 1HKO deathblowed 3 of my team members.... My favorite moment for Renne is in Crossbell arc when she came off as "just a little girl", but then Colin was in danger, she whipped out her giant scythe and 1 shotted bunch of wolfs - and how looking at Colin has helped her in coming to terms with her own situation. I look forward to your next video! I've always been interested in the persona for the main protagonist - they are usually "bland" so the players can project themselves onto it, but in Trails, I like how each main character is unique and have their own personal backstory. I'm curious to the corresponding "arcana" for these main characters. I vote for Lloyd Bannings next!

Holy Stregas, this is phenomenal! Renne is such a deep, complex character and this analysis of her is so thorough. I've mentioned many times in the podcast that her journey was something so emotionally charged and riveting, and that her fairy tale from the top of the tower really opened my eyes on what was underneath the surface. I ended up rooting for her at every appearance after that and I guess it's no surprise that her and Estelle are my two favorite characters in Trails. As for favorite events, there are so many! The end of the 3rd when she is confronted with Estelle and Joshua's love, yet runs away immediately after admitting her own feelings. When she turns her back in shame at the end of Zero, only to be met with the same love from our favorite Bracers, which makes her break down as she realizes it's for real. It was so hard seeing her lose Pater-Mater, as well. Like, how much tragedy can one person be put through? You're so right, though, that now she has the Brights there to support her. And, of course, Tita. Seeing Tita refer to her "best friend" in CS3 just made me smile because we know who that means! Thanks for making this!! I was thrilled to see Renne was your first pick!

This is super well done. Renne is one of my favourite characters as well. Pater-Mater's sacrifice at the end of Ao actually had me in tears, because of all that it represents, both as an end to Renne's old life, and her final connection to Ouroboros, as well as the beginning to her new life, as Estelle and Joshua's adopted daughter. I'm impressed by how deep the tarot connections go as well. That was definitely fun to learn about. I'm definitely interested in seeing more videos like these in the future!

Renne has one of the most tragic backgrounds, but she's sooo adorable. I like how Estelle and Josh play the parent/role model for her. I was glad they all finally reunited at the end of Zero and yes, I may have shed a tear or two :'). I really hope to see her in the later Sen games, whether it's III or IV. Amazing analysis, Lady :).

This is a great video! Renne's always been my favorite character from trails, it was really nice to see the interpretation of her arc through Tarot. I hope you keep doing this character analysis from trails! I'm going to see Estelle's now :)

Phenomenal analysis! Renne's redemption arc was excellently written, and Falcom clearly did a nice job staying true to the devil. I feel like people don't always consider the Tarot card influences with each enforcer to help explain their actions. Regardless I'm looking forward to the next one!

Oh I made a big mistake... I said fuck it and decided to watch this video but I really should not have... I am in the Axis Pillar in SC RIGHT NOW and MAAAAN, Renne is already one of my favourite characters so when I saw this pop up, I jumped on it. REALLY good and well researched and well written video, I was just selfish and impatient... Will sub anyway for more of these analyses.

At first, when i see renne's enforcer number, i was like 'oh, XV, devil then. Weell, she do look like one'. Its cool how you can breakdown a nice explanation regarding that in a more sensical way XD Think you can try other enforcers too? IIRC their numbers are along these lines, correct me if im wrong : Campanella : 0 : Fool McBurn : 1 : Magician Loewe : 2 : Priestess? Luciola : 6 : Lovers Walter : 8 : Justice? Sharon : 9 : Hermit Blublanc : 10 : Fortune Joshua : 13 : Death Shirley : 17 : Star? Good luck, and long time no see o/

Renne is not only my favorite character in trails, shes my favorite character in all of fiction lol. I’m not going to watch this yet out of caution for spoilers since im only at chapter 3 of ao as of this comment. But i had to ask where the heck did u get that art of renne in the thumbnail? Its really good
