Don Reno was one of the most innovative and inspired of Banjo players. Players today still study his methods. Likewise Red Smiley made great use of G runs on a guitar. They could do it without stepping all over each others playing to. Excellent.

You know I love you and I always will I know you're married but I love you still The day I met you my heart spoke to me It said to love you through eternity Now knowing that you were another's bride I vowed I'll always be close by your side You know I love you and I always will I know you're married but I love you still You broke a heart dear that would die for you I'd give this world dear to belong to you The game is over now and we've both lost A broken heart will have to pay the cost You know I love you and I always will I know you're married but I love you still My grandpa's would pick& sing this when my mama was a little girl ❤️

How could Mac be married 50 years, I don't think he was even 50 years old at this time?

Don Reno & Red Smiley had the original recording of this great song. Red Sovine's Starday recording came a little later with the twin fiddles, a classic itself. The Navajo language station from the reservation at the Arizona-New Mexico border used to play Red Sovine's version it seems every time I was driving Interstate 40. Couldn't understand a word the DJ was saying but then would come Red Sovine. The fiddle player here is Mac Magaha who later was one of Porter Wagoner's Wagonmasters. Mac had an animated style like the old medicine shows often used. It was noticeably different from the stand still and just play style that was in vogue during his career years. Thanks for the posting and my wife still mostly shops at Kroger.

they made great music together, both of them, picking their part at the right time.

The statement that comes on the screen at the end is incorrect. The song was inspired by Mac's stateside sweetheart who sent him a Dear John letter while he was in a hospital in Japan recuperating from injuries suffered near the end of the Korean War in 1952.

@@olddave4833 That's cool to know. Porter is one of my favorites mostly in his first 15 years of recordings. Didn't he have an all female band at some time?

I just question why no one plays that nasty guitar bass run anymore? It kills!
