This is why mental health is such a problem in America. Every time someone tries to help, they are met with this “Not in my Backyard!” BS. They would rather have crazy people running the streets without treatment than have them getting the help they need. As long as they don’t have to see it from their porch right? Sickening!

If they do it, it should be done properly. More personnel and stricter policies can minimize impact. After all, Folsom Prison in California causes no problem at all for the neighborhood, with a lot of worse cases. So, no reason it should not be in their backyard. But I am not over-critical of the folks you call ‘nimbys’. Maybe these local people know their local government is not going to do it properly, and they want the project mismanaged somewhere else. But that just means, they should be more active in reforming that same government. They are ultimately responsible, after all.
