Footage shot in Reno and its surrounding areas in January and February 1952, selected from the film "The Captive City". Note: This upload is for educational and historical purposes only.
I had seen this movie several times and not realized parts of it were shot in Reno, NV. I lived there for over 25 years. The very last shot is of the now closed Wells Ave. underpass.
a young John Forsythe. nice. didn't recognize him at first, but the voice gave it away. i live in reno now, and have for about 22 years. would have loved to have seen it, in '52. hell, even before. call it, 1925. wouldn't that be something!
You can see peavine Mt in the background in that shot in the beginning if the neighborhood. Honestly I kind of love reno. Been here my whole life. It's just right.
Peavine with zero snow. . So this would likely be footage from the summer of 1951. . . Although, usually, any snow that hung around late inro the summer months would be on the norhtern slopes facing Stead and Lemmon Valley.
