Today, we’re gonna discuss about the cost of house renovation in Malaysia
Maybe (some will tell us) different material cost, different price
So we’ve prepared reference data for all of you. It is not absolutely correct, I emphasize again, it is not absolutely correct.
Don’t try to shoot me in comment area
Basically it is for reference
Let’s get started
First, the average cost of renovation according to property type in Malaysia
In Malaysia, there are condos, semi d houses, terrace houses, cluster houses, apartments, etc.
House renovation typically involves carpentry work, electrical work, cement work, plaster ceiling construction, painting, plumbing, etc.
Different houses will differ in cost to renovate. For example, the cost of renovating a condo can range anywhere from RM40k to RM150k while for terrace houses it’s anywhere from RM60k to RM250k.
Of course - the bigger the house, the pricier it gets.
Have a look at this chart.
Flooring
Some people will choose mosaic tiling, some will choose wooden flooring and some will choose carpets.
Flooring often makes up a high portion of the total cost of renovation. More, still, once labour is factored in.
Flooring will definitely cost you few thousand ringgit or more.
Technically; different material, different price.
Like parquet - it costs approximately RM10 to RM30 per square foot
Tiles - it costs approximately RM9 to RM60
Plumbing
Flushing toilets, bathing in bathrooms, cooking in kitchens and washing dishes and clothes all use water.
So plumbing is necessary to make water heaters work. It costs approximately RM250 per unit, depending on what brand you buy
Installing sinks and taps - approximately RM300
Electrical work
Electrical work involves a lot of wiring. Basically, the wires need to be fitted into the wall to hide them from sight. This could cause you a lot of trouble if you don’t complete it properly.
Power plugs and sockets are approximately RM70 to RM100 each.
An additional function of power plugs is its ability to charge your phone or mobile device via USB ports.
Hacking and patching services will be charged if you do electrical work.
Feature wall
For themed home interior design, a feature wall is used to present a house’s main design concept/ theme.
It’s important. To make a feature wall, it depends on the kind of material,
If it is a painting it will cost approximately RM40 per square foot.
If it is a decorative stone veneer, sans installation, it will cost approximately RM10 to RM50
Carpentry work
If you wanna install wardrobes, cabinets and other decorative or wooden things then that would fall under carpentry work.
A TV cabinet costs approximately RM150 to RM300 per foot run
Shoe cabinets cost approximately RM300 to RM500 per foot run
A solid counter top for the kitchen costs approximately RM150 to RM300 per foot run
Wardrobes cost approximately RM350 to RM600 per foot run
False Ceiling
A false ceiling can make your room space look larger
You can also install hidden lights on ceilings to make rooms looks nicer too
Plaster ceilings cost approximately RM2 to RM5 per square foot
Light troughs cost approximately RM7 to RM30 per square foot
Wall hacking
If you want to do wall hacking to change your house floor plan it will cost approximately RM20 per square foot which includes cleaning up the debris after.
And that’s a wrap for today’s episode of the RenoTalk show. We will see you in the next episode. Bye bye.
