Welcome back to Renovating in Tuscany! We’re off to Paris, France amid demolition at the villa. Life has been a whirlwind of work, pregnancy, construction, and anticipation, and we're thrilled to share the latest chapter with you.
Our transition from the top floor to the bottom floor was a strategic move to jumpstart work upstairs. However, the absence of gas continues to pose a challenge, leaving us unable to cook on the new stove or enjoy the warmth of heating.
In our previous video, we urgently tackled installing window frames upstairs before the baby's arrival. Andrea took charge, installing the new window frame for the French doors in our primary bathroom. These new windows promise enhanced noise reduction, insulation for colder months, and a cooler atmosphere in the hot summer. With all window frames ready, we eagerly await the installation of the new windows, bringing more natural light into the evolving rooms.
Amidst the chaos of a demolished temporary kitchen and bathroom, our trip to Paris became a welcomed escape. Our pre-planned sourcing trip turned into a luxurious break. Our 8-hour drive to Beaune and a subsequent 13-hour journey to Paris set the stage for exploration.
The trade show featured a diverse array of home decor, furniture, and lighting from various vendors, each presenting a unique perspective. As we navigated through the booths, our focus was on selectively choosing items that would complement our vision for Casa Ardor. And of course, Andrea couldn't resist gathering inspiration for the nursery, sparking countless ideas for the future.
Upon our return from France, we were eager to witness the major progress that unfolded during our absence. Take a walk-through as we showcase the transformation!

💗You always warm my heart!!😘 thanks so much for your kind words of support! I just started my prenatal course here, but between all the Reno and work… I’m actually late to the party 😅 better late than never! I’m soaking it all up and enjoying these last weeks as just us two. Our builders are really amazing and we enjoy speaking with them everyday! It really makes a difference to work with people who you click with.

Thank you, this is the content I personally enjoy the most from you guys. Thanks for it. It can be even more detailed on the building, architectural part, with plans, arch. details. My personal taste:) In any case, I enjoy the journey. Thanks for it. All the best health to the growing family!

Thanks so much!! 💗We’re so happy you’re following us along on this journey ☺️ your message is so helpful and encouraging! It’s been such a learning experience to figure out how to get the design results we want and consider the technical part of building. We have to be deep into the planning and be very clear about what we want the end product to be- before work is done! We’ve developed a great relationship with the builders and we navigate it all together. I can’t imagine not living on site to make adjustments and deal with questions on a daily basis 😅 our builder told us that some clients don’t even visit the site until it’s all done! 😳

PS: One more question: I dont recall the place you are located in Italy, not sure if you have advised on it in an earlier video. Could you share? As an idea, i would enjoy it... another winter, spring (maybe even seasonal) mood video of the place and surroundings.

That’s a fantastic idea!! “Off season” here is so different from the summer. So many people visit from all over and enjoy summer apartments or family houses by the sea. We’ve had some really spectacular days in January that remind me so much of California (despite the cold) and I pinch myself everyday knowing how close we are to the sea. It’s pretty quiet here but I love peace and tranquility after dealing with so much traffic in Los Angeles all my life. We’re located in the south of Pisa & Livorno.

We rennovated pretty extensively two years ago (while having a 1yo and working full time) so I know how much work goes into this and just how stressful it is. You really have to pace yourself to not burn out. May I ask why you decided to move to Italy? Anyways... coming along nicely. The kitchen looks amazing. Can't wait to see the end result.

You couldn’t be more right! Everyday we spend at LEAST a couple of hours making calls and decisions to keep the Reno going. Some days are easier than others but I can’t imagine what it would be like with a 1 yr old 😳 you are so strong for taking on your project!! It’s by no means no small feat! We decided to move because we wanted to completely change our lives. We both had good jobs in LA but we needed something more and decided to start saving for the move once we came on a trip in for New Years in 2016. The life here is way slower and more family focused in a way we hadn’t experienced in the US. It just so happened that we both wanted this crazy thing and we kept each other going even when it got really tough. It’s all been worth it! 😊

@@CasaArdor makes sense. I live a few hours north (in Switzerland). I've been to Italy many times, so I'm quite familiar with la dolce vita... It's a beautiful country. So much culture. I can recommend the northern lakes region for a summer get away when it gets too hot down south (which is everything below the Po river 😂), if you haven't been... Make sure to check it out sometime.

We’ve been dying to visit Switzerland! We have friends from there and heard so many great things about it. I’m sure it’s gorgeous in the summer when it’s boiling here 🫠

It’s coming together beautifully! 😊 Just curious, do you need a geometra for the internal structural changes and any permits from the commune? Thanks!
@CasaArdor
@CasaArdor 6 месяцев назад
Hey there! Thanks so much! 😊 Yes, absolutely we have a geometra and engineer to oversee the project and handle all of the bureaucracy involved with the construction and changes we are making. There’s a lot to handle with being compliant with the job site as far as safety so we put it in their hands. It’s something Rob and I agree that is absolutely essential and we budgeted for this before we started construction. Some people will make changes to their house and only make it official when they want to sell the property, but you open yourself to a “condono” - a sanction with the comune and on top of that, you have the expense to correct it and more bureaucracy to submit changes. We want to avoid that entirely 😅

What's the budget ish for the reno ?
@CasaArdor
@CasaArdor 6 месяцев назад
It’s definitely as low as we can go for such a large project. We haven’t done a full accounting of a total quite yet because we handle each trade at a time in payments as work is completed.
