Renovating Our 1997 Rockwood Freedom Pop-Up Camper.

Well, we were going to take a three and a half week road trip through the South. Go party in Austin and New Orleans. Maybe check out Panama City Beach, but then, COVID-19... So, with all this time on our hands we decided we may as well remodel our pop-up camper. If you're not interested in all that, and want to just skip to the cats, they're at 4:11.
Someone suggested I add a list of the products we used in our renovation, so here it is. I’m not affiliated with any of these products:
For plastic and rubber trim:
Rustoleum Universal Bonding Primer
Walls and cabinets:
Sherwin Williams Everlast Exterior - we opted for the exterior paint rather than interior for durability.
High-heat applications:
Krylon High-Heat.
Tec Ready to use floor patch
Dicor lap sealant
The cabinet pulls were from Lowe’s. Everything else was left over from other projects or bought from Habitat for Humanity.

I just bought a 1995 Rockwood , and the layout looks the same. I was wondering what size is the mattress ?? Love the remodel ❤️

Thanks! I wish I could tell you the size of the mattresses, but I’m unable to raise the roof right now because someone crashed into it in Washington. I’ll be doing a repair video sometime in the future when it warms up here.

No laying down on the job lady! Ha ha ha ha! What type of paint did you use? And why did you use plastic to recover the seating pads? Really like the blankets & upholstery colors/look. Feminine and masculine all in the same batch. Nice

Thanks! Glad you like the upholstery! We used Everlast exterior paint. All the materials we used are in the description.

I just bought the same camper . It’s in great shape but needs an awning. Do you know where I could find one? Your camper turned out great. I like the modern look. It resembles the way a lot of the van builds are done. Very nice

Hi I have the same camper as you, and a camper support that is the one that raises and lowers the roof of the camper got stuck and does not lower, I would like to know how to repair it, thanks

I don’t specifically know how to fix that. The supports do need to be lubricated occasionally. I use the silicone based WD-40.

So far the only slightly annoying thing is that it scuffs, but it’s really easy to clean and touch up, and it makes the space feel much more open.

@@theartifactory3637 I can totally see how that would create an airy feel to the interior. I recently got a pop up camper which is what led me to your video. As a kid in the 1970s my family had an old camper with the wood look interior. I finally decided just to leave mine the same way for the sake of nostalgia. I did however put some nice dark wood look linoleum down over the late 1980s tile look linoleum. Which dramatically improved the looks without effecting the campy old feel. I do appreciate your video for the inspiration to just tear into it and make it happen. Thank you!

Thank you! The total cost of supplies for the renovation was only $500. It’s holding up pretty well a year later after heavy use. I have some upcoming videos showing more detail about what’s worked and what could have been done differently. Please subscribe and watch those when they’re posted!

Yes! Sorry. It was hard to tell how long things were going to be on screen with the time lapse. I’ll add them to the description as well, but for the plastic trim and rubber we used Rustoleum Universal Bonding Primer, for the walls and cabinets we used Sherwin Williams Everlast Exterior for durability, for high-heat applications we used Krylon High-Heat. If it’s helpful, we also used Tec Ready to Use Floor Patch. It’s all stuff that’s available at Lowe’s.

We paid $2700. Arguably too much, but it was at the beginning of the pandemic, and there was a rush on secondhand campers.

@@theartifactory3637 now PUPs are even more expensive. We paid $5200 (in N. California) for a 91’ Coleman with minor updates. Most we’ve seen are between $5-7k
