Rent increase forces seniors to move out of Greensboro apartments 

Never ending i hope the younger tenants mess up there apartments in time.

It also displaces poor people (regardless of age) in place of higher income earners. Single mothers and working women are squeezed out too.

What happened to the excuse 'They should've planned better for retirement.' Anyways a good solution is to find a more affordable city to live in! Illinois has plenty of affordable housing and a couple extremely affordable cities. Can easily find single family homes for under 1k/month. Especially in Rockford.

Hello ¿ A lot results from 2 years state illegally screwing landlords financially....so now everybody esp responsible renters are suffering , including elderly disabled people.....not just those squatters who didn’t need to pay rent & partying like it’s 1999.

@@moa3008 Not paid for by landlords. We’re just people screwed over by 1 out of every 4 renters. We also have increased cost due to inflation, taxes and insurance. Hire a repairman lately? The older people had a 45 year career where they should have saved for their golden years. Most chose not to so now I should subsidize their living expenses? Where’s their family? Where’s their church? They gave up. The federal government has 83 means tested welfare programs passing out $900 billion tax dollars. The states kick in another $500 billion tax dollars. I think it’s time that the people start taking some personal responsibility. We house them with section 8. We feed them with food stamps and food banks. We discount their utilities and send them a SS check and they still won’t take out the trash or stop their dog from crapping on the carpet. Being a landlord made me insensitive. Let them sleep on the street. I didn’t make their life choices.

His first name was Don, he was on the board of governor's of the academy awards, and he was the sound editor on Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (and one other very well known one I can't remember.) So he may have passed by now - I left Cali in 1996. There was almost no turnover in the building. I recently looked at it on google and it appears the units have been remodeled and are higher priced now. One of the ways he kept our rents so low was by not putting any money into it unless it was a serious issue. I really feel for you - rents are crazy everywhere. I hope you find something affordable.

We “young people” are aware of the issue!! Most of us can’t afford to rent a place by ourselves we have to have roommates to make ends meet! How things are going, how can we afford to go to school and have a place to live? Everything’s is going up except pay and some places have increased their pay by a few cents or a dollar please!!! Some of us have to work two jobs to just make ends meet, some of us have family and our kids have to have only part time parents because we have to work, just to afford the basics, a lot of us can’t be stay at home parents, so please stop saying that our generation are blind to the issue, at least on this we are aware of

You have been blessed with a wonderful son. My daughter helped me when my husband passed 16 years ago. He left me nothing and I was on disability. Times have changed. She is divorced and on disability. My parents and brothers are deceased. Most of my relatives are too. I pray I will be able to stay in my rental till God calls me home but it is tough with inflation. We can thank government for this mess. Close that border and stop sending billions to a war we don't need or want. This is Ukraine and Russia's mess not ours. Take care of Americans.

I’m not against small or reasonable rent increases. I just feel like the rent increases talked about in this video are unreasonable. I’m not a renter so it doesn’t impact me but I do feel bad for people who are. 😞

@@wanaraz built them right in the begin with. Instead of building cheap movie sets, why not build them like in Europe, with cinderblocks. Air conditioning runs maybe 3 time a day and 1 times a night on a very hot day. That means, less wear and tear.

Good idea. Build affordable housing for seniors only. People shouldn’t mind if senior housing is built in their area? They are quiet homebodies. It’s definitely needed because the senior housing market is too expensive. If seniors end up in state run convalescent homes from sleeping on the streets-that will cost more money in the long run anyway.

Mexico now requires proof of $2,600+/month of retirement income to get approved for residency. So why not make that a requirement for illegal immigrants to enter America?

A sizable chunk has less than $1,200/month and rents for 1 bedroom apt are now around $1K in most cities where doctors/hospitals/other services are located. My main point is USA should make the same requirement for anyone that is an illegal immigrant/"expat", they need to bring in at least $2,600/month documented income PRIOR to arriving here. Equal requirement.

@@craiggallup5706 I'm hardly xenophobic. I live in an apartment complex in Houston that is approximately 75% Hispanic, go to Fiesta Mart (grocer) two blocks away. When my parents & disabled brother were alive and lived in this same apartment complex, I was their caregiver. The Hispanic people were always mannerly & helpful to my entire family, so I have a high opinion of Hispanic people. That's one of the reasons I have looked into relocating to Mexico for my retirement years, now that my family members have passed away. I am very disappointed that the new $2,600/month requirement is pricing me out and many others in my neighborhood. Of course, I am now looking into other countries, mainly Southeast Asia, but I felt an affinity towards Hispanic people/culture.

Many years ago when I was a kid, there was a old woman with a family home she lived in all her life that a nearby university needed student parking for. Somehow they got the city to evict her from the house she had lived in all her life and they showed them on tv breaking down the door and removing her from it so they could demolish it. The crowd that had gathered wasn’t happy and they were yelling. The cops who broke down the door and removed her had stressed expressions on their faces. I didn’t see anything being taken out of the house. I do remember the house being demolished and much later on they showed the new parking lot. The college students using it seemed indifferent to what happened to the house and the old lady living in it. I kind of remember one of them saying something about it was an old house and needed to be torn down so they’d have someplace to park. No compassion at all. The old lady just kind of disappeared, no further news later on. My dad suspected bribes were paid off to officials by the university, but of course no proof. He always used to say if the government wants to take something from you, they will. They have all the power and incentives to break you and take you….

And wages are way up...thats why we HAVE inflation. Rent is not immune to the economy just because old people rent. Old people also eat and buy gas. ALL expenses are up. I boondocked in San Diego in my 1982 Toyota Rv (2014). I got ticketed a few times per month but otherwise lived rent free. Beautiful place.

These people didn't have the same earning level as people today. Many of these people earning no more than $0.50 to $3.00 and hour. There's no way they could have saved money. They don't teach this in school.
