I'm a renter and my walls are textured. I solved this by using flat tacks and poster board. I put up the poster board with the flat tacks--- if the "seams" were an issue, I put clear packing tape over it. From there I adhered the wall paper or peel and stick tile to that. Not only is it renter friendly, it addresses my textured walls and allows me to change the look easily. Or remove it altogether with no damage to the walls.
guys.. A small pot of wall spackle is less than $5, it really doesn't take a lot of effort to cover holes in a wall from art or decor and the results are so worth it 🏡
☝🏾 I agree with this! I never hesitate to make holes in my walls. I do keep some under my sink though for this very reason! I think the tricky part comes with paint matching to cover the spackle.
@@SabrinaLatoyatake your exacto knife, cut a small piece of paint off and bring it to Lowe's or wherever and have them color match it for you and get a tiny can of paint. Boom. Fixed.
A little things to address. Removable wallpaper also doesn’t work on textured walls either. I think painting is very renter friendly because you can always just paint it back to its original color. So unless you’re planning on painting the whole apartment, I don’t see why you wouldn’t just paint. I’ve always painted and always get my deposit back. Also, if you have textured walls, you can 100% make holes in the walls because when you spackle it and paint it it blends in with the rest of the wall. And I’d be careful putting stick on tiles over linoleum. I did that once and it ripped the old linoleum floor. Luckily my landlord at the time liked it so he was ok with it. Lol. I’ve also been able to cut deals with the landlord. Say I wanted to do something to the apartment that would definitely be an upgrade, say I wanted the kitchen cabinets to look different or get new lighting or plumbing fixtures, I would discuss this with the landlord prior to signing the contract. We would either agree on a lower rent for me to do these updates or I would provide the receipts and they would pay for it up to a certain amount. This only works if you’re renting from the owner directly, though, and not going through a property management/real estate company.
Even if your landlord is a private owner, it’s still a good idea to ask before you paint. Some private owners are finicky about painting, and if they really want to be jerks, they can evict you for violating the lease if it’s clear in the lease that they don’t want you to paint.
Your hair looks amazing on you... I'm a homeowner and I like the idea of removable wallpaper, it allows me to add some personality to my walls without all the work.
This video was super helpful. I never thought about blank full color wall paper. I normally just hand paint my accent walls. I've never heard of slat walls. I'll have to look into that idea.
Top-notch, quality video content. I just stumbled across your channel. I am moving in about a month and a half and am happy for all the tips and advice you provide. Thanks!
1. Removable wallpaper does not work, unless you are ready for whole spackle and paint job. 2. Get great pieces of furniture and decor and (standalone) lighting. This is going to change the game. 4. Get rugs to break spaces 5. DECLUTTER
I think removeable wallpaper is fine if you have a satin finish on your walls. I had a whole wall of it in my apartment rental. I moved out 2 days ago and the removeable wallpaper I installed a year ago came off without any problem. Got it from Target.
The vertical blinds thing works. I added blackout curtains which helped my bedroom be dark and keep out the cold air a little better. I want to try some of these other tips.
Absolutely loved all these tips! I did the slat wall in my living room and people go wild for it! Next will be floating shelves and arched mirrors! Thanks again 🖤
Zep cleaning products are bomb . My favorite is the wall cleaner. The curtain brackets are cool but I wanted my curtains to hang from the ceiling. I have popcorn ceilings so I opted for the tracks. Great video ❤
Hi Sabrina, I just loved all of your tips. Being a homeowner I will tell you that you are right on the money! You're going to be a fantastic homeowner. TFS
Another great video!!! I've never seen the no no blind bracket things. Very cool! Also great tip about what paint finish can accept removable wallpaper/vinyl. There's another awesome RU-vidr named Waynaworld, and she is the queen of peel and stick and removable vinyl!
Where have you been ALL my life? 😍 These ideas are AMAZING….I’m pretty handy but design overwhelms me but these are so simple and just speak to me. I’m def checking out your other videos 🙌🏾
Moving into my first place in 7 days and this video (just like all of your other great videos) came right on time! I never heard of slat wall before and I think I wanna try that. Also wallpaper. I wanted to paint but I don't think I wanna do it since I'm not sure what exact color the wall in my unit is. It's white but not regular lol. Wallpaper, slats and lighting. Thanks for this! ❤
👍👍Thank you.. great ideas especially the peel and stick wallpaper.. I was debating on whether or not to do it and I have flat paint.. good save whew 💜💜
Hey❤️ I may not know you personally however I care about you deeply because I know how much you mean to Jesus Christ The King of ALL CREATION . I want to tell you that Jesus Christ loves you so much, he died for our sins so that whoever believes in him wouldn’t have to perish in hell but instead have eternal life in heaven. You need to understand that HEAVEN and HELL are 1000% REAL they aren’t imaginary , and hell is a horrible place I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. God doesn’t want you to end up there he wants you in heaven and so he is giving you a chance to accept the sacrifice of his son Jesus Christ and be saved. Day by Day the world is falling apart because we are literally living in the last days of Earth there is no doubt or debate about it, Jesus Christ is coming faster then you think to bring judgement to the world and to destroy it. This really is URGENT, it’s NOT A JOKE ,Tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone, you can be alive one minute and gone the next, please take this opportunity to be on the side of Mercy confess your sins and wicked ways to Jesus , sincerely REPENT/turn away from them, ask for his forgiveness, and be baptized at a real bible believing church- ask him to enter your heart and to be your Lord and Savior before it is too late , truly believe in him and he WILL do it because it is his promise. It’s important that you seek the righteous and Holy path of the Most high God so that you may inherit eternal life and be spared of Hell fire. You can begin a new life in Christ and have a genuine relationship with him, please repent. Jesus changed my life and he will change yours too🥰, He is coming NOW! not SOON- when you least expect it!, therefore repent and make sure you are prepared. May the Lord be with you eternally💕🙏🏾
Bro. NAAAAHHHH these videos are TOOOOO TOP TIER! TOOO HIGH QUALITY! You need A LOT more recognition!!!!! It’s crazy. You have better quality content than some bigger RU-vidrs. The algorithm is MAAHDD!
Like? nope. I absolutely loved this video! so many great ideas! definitely need to get me 2 of those battery operated lamps to hang at the side of the bed! been looking for ways to have hanging lights without running wires! thanks for including lighting lol and of course for sharing! Great video as always! man, whenever I meet you I'm gonna give you a big ol' hug! 😄 you deserve all the followers and success you get on this channel! 😊🤗 could you link some of these lights please? I'm probably searching for the wrong thing lol because so far my search results look off lol
Ok wow this is the first video that I’ve watched which let me know that the type of paint matters for the temporary “removable” wall paper !! Now I’m just wondering how you determine the type of paint - satin? 😅
Be careful with those stick up lights under cabinets. I have tried a couple and they don't stick for long and come down. I also bought some cool pug type lights with a USB chargeable light and magnets. Yeah, those "sticky" tapes also came off of the wall.
Thanks. With respect, (A) if you do want to add wallpaper, why not paint your wall(s) with the satin finish first? Also, (B) attempting to remove wallpaper (or peel and stick floor tiles) without purchasing a proper heat gun beforehand to assist you with this could indeed be a disaster. Cheers.
See I have a sliver of patio space in front of my apartment and now you got me thinking about doing a lil something something to it. Got me spending money already 😂
What about carpet in the apartment? I dislike having carpet and it’s a very ugly brown color . Makes it impossible to design/furnish my living room because I feel like the color throws everything off
I’m working with plaster walls so putting holes and resealing them after isn’t an option. Painting isn’t an option either. It’s an old restored space so I’ll be using industrial grade peel and sticks for all wall decor lol gonna try out wall decals too
After watching the Renter Friendly Updates: Apartment Hacks, I had such great respect for you when stressed to be sure to get permission from the landlord before making any changes. But when I watched this video, there were no importance placed on respecting the landlord like asking for permission ahead of proceeding with any desired works. The last thing a landlord wants is a misunderstanding as to why the rental has become unrecognizable during a scheduled fire safety walkthrough or maintenance. Help me understand this shift in demeanor. As a landlord, I have been generous with affordable rent to help college bound kids so they don’t have to worry as I am carrying on a legacy started by my father to be kind through volunteer or service whenever possible. Perhaps my generosity and kindness was interpreted as weakness, that it encouraged the recently exited tenants to free willingly work the premises to their liking without prior consent-a demeanor not in keeping with the rental agreement. This has resulted in permanently altering the theme and character of the rental. While they were here, their unauthorized changes were a detriment to themselves, the property, and to others. You would never think that tech lightbulbs would be an issue but it was. 49 days into construction of the rental after a flood from a dishwasher and the tenant being put up in a hotel, there were several incidences of averted injuries. Only the tenants had knowledge of the tech lightbulb’s extensibility. They went beyond voice command by timing out the bulbs if or when the lightswitch was flipped on. So when contractors flipped on the lightswitch and worked with machinery, the lights would switch off moments later. I had to finally tell the tenant to disengage the feature from the lightbulb so the contractors can continue working without incident. The tenants endangered their own safety by blocking an emergency exit with their loft bed. They may have compromised their own health by drying their washings indoors and not ventilating the place. In keeping with the theme of not ventilating the place, they have managed to produce spores from lichen, moss, and fungus (normally found outdoors) at the head of where they slept. I’m sure this may not be the ultimate horror story. I would like tenants to go through the trouble of getting consent as per the rental agreement. This allows for a study of potential pitfalls before proceeding. Thank you for your time and understanding.
Sabrina is so nice, I'm confident it was an innocent oversight not that she changed her mind. Your comment seems moreso from a place of frustration with your personal situation, not from what was said or not said in this video. Sorry that happened to you. Perhaps you should change your rental agreements to address that issue better in the future.
as a Scandinavian I'm a little confused about why you call the arches "Scandinavian" it's not really something you see in Scandinavia, there isn't a lot of arches in Scandinavia however if we have them they are real-we don't really care for faux , not faux arches, faux brick walls, faux plants, faux marble, faux tiles, faux designer furniture (that's actually illegal ) faux wall panels ect. -we don't really do such things - we like natural clean lines often mixed old/new Rustic/clean ined , mid century modern/contemp. cheap/expensive some like bold colors -often in art some like no color
