Beautiful drone footage and very good information Stefano! Renting a vehicle is great choice when you are on your own schedule and have your own itinerary and are exploring the back roads and staying in the countryside at an agriturismo or resort. There are ample parking lots outside the larger cities (within walking distance) if you are doing a day trip to Siena/Firenze etc. Do allow the extra time (if you can) to take the country roads to your destination to enjoy the stunning villages, towns and countryside views. Get your International driving license from a CAA or AAA (automobile clubs) even if you're not a member. It's valid for 1 year from date of purchase. So far, I never have had to show it for renting a car from Avis/Budget at FCO, but if you get stopped by the Carabinieri (local police), you'll be glad you did. Yes, driving is the way to go. It is a more expensive, but totally worth it. Make sure you have full coverage for any dings or damage.

Stefano - well done, very helpful. We took the bus to Siena from Firenze, and missed SO much. We just wanted to get there, but looking back it would have been better to rent a vehicle.

Thanks. The great thing is that on next trip you won't need to drive to these two cities and you can concentrate on the countryside 😀

Great video! heading over the pond to visit tuscany in September, and we figure renting a car to see the small towns is better then bus train for flexibility. Thanks!

Totally, visiting the small towns is a sort of nightmare with buses. Lots of time wasted waiting for the transportation, which is fine if you want to take it slowly. Enjoy your trip. Cheers

hi, may i know how is hybrid car driving in tuscany? is it a hassle to fit charging port?
@StefanoFerro
@StefanoFerro 4 месяца назад
Great question. It's getting better but it's still not perfect. You will find charging points in the major cities/towns. Less so in the villages or countryside. They recently installed a charging point even outside the small village where I usually sleep, a village with 30-40 inhabitants. The issue I see though is that these charging spots are typically outside the villages and rare in the major towns, due to limited space. So you may have to walk a fair bit from your parking to the accommodation if you are unlucky. Things are changing quickly, but I feel we are still not there.

We are getting off a cruise in civitivecchia and wanting to hire a car to go to the Val d’orcia region. Where should we hire a a car from? The port? Florence? Rome? I want to avoid big city traffic pick up experience One way as we are headed to Varenna in lake Como after our 5 days driving tour. Thanks in advance! 😊

Great road trip!! The easiest would be to rent the car in Civitavecchia. From there, you can drive through the beautiful Lazio and Tuscany countryside to Val D'Orcia. The issue is that usually they have a limited availability, but if you find the right car for you, I wouldn't hesitate to start my trip from there. Have a look at my suggested website to book a car, you may be lucky. The alternative is Rome Fiumicino Airport. There is much more availability and better prices, but you would need to go there from the port, and the way to Val D'Orcia through the highway is not as scenic. I wouldn't go to Florence to rent a car. Val D'Orcia is between Rome and Florence, so you would make your trip much longer, back and forward. I hope I was able to help out. Have a great trip

May I ask which car rental company did you use and did you get scams?
@StefanoFerro
@StefanoFerro 9 месяцев назад
I have used a few. Never got scams except once with Goldcar. They didn't add a small scratch when I picked the car up, and then they wanted to charge me 200 Euros. I usually take photos, so I could show it was all there already at pick up time. No charge at the end. Have a great drive. It's totally worth it.

I will visit there from end of this month for 14days. Booked a rent car. But worry about parking when I walking city. My plan is park at airport of city than take public transportation. How do you think this idea. I will stay at BNB little away from city.

There are a few options for parking. I have listed them for Florence and Siena in my guides (links in the video description). These are the two most challenging places. Pisa airport is a short ride to the city, so definitely a great idea to park there. Enjoy your trip

Could you recommend the best rental company?
@StefanoFerro
@StefanoFerro 11 месяцев назад
@@pascyb8947 Always hard to suggest a rental over another because I have not rented from all companies in Tuscany. RentalPlus is a good one, but there could be others. This my suggested website where I usually rent the car (mel365.com/MySuggestedCarRentalWebsite). They also offer full insurance for just 7euro/day which is a great bargain. You can also read more about my experience on mel365.com/renting-a-car-in-tuscany/ . Enjoy your trip!! Cheers
