This song from 1985 shows you just how great of a guitar player and songwriter Gary Richrath was.....He was the glue and fuel that took REO to the top!! RIP Gary you won't ever be forgotten.
@@jaycoleman8062 I was at this concert it was at Royals stadium Summer Jam and it rained so hard before they did this song they had to stop playing for a while this was the encore after they dried everything off and the whole place smelled like permanent wave from everyones HAIR
Gary was unrecognizable at the end. So sad. If you have not seen this video , check it out. He is playing with different musicians! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l6sNZv7J43U.html
One of the most iconic songs ever wrote by a young and now legendary Gary Richrath. Rest In Peace Gary! There will never be another R.E.O. Speedwagon like there was when the lineup was Allan, Gary, Neal, Bruce or Greg and Kevin. Legendary!
Love REO Speedwagon but Without Gary Richrath ?? Just My Opinion !! Saw them in the 70's with Kevin Cronin and Without, but to be honest Kevin Cronin and Gary Richrath, Neal Doughty, Greg Philbin and Alan Gratzer Were REO Speedwagon !! But I Get You Have To Roll With The Changes !! R.I.P. Gary Richrath !!
@@edarnold1426 With Kevin Cronin and Without !! Read Much !! I Do - They Were R.E.O. From 73 to 73 To 76 Without Kevin Too ?? I Know I Saw Them With Michael Murphy Also !! 1972 R.E.O. Speedwagon Album TWO !!
@@loudog2326 Kevin left just after they did riding the storm out. "After T.W.O."! Kevin was with the band for the whole T.W.O. album!!! They had Riding The Storm in the works and dubbed Mike in on it after Kevin left for Riding The Storm Out album! Read much? I lived through all the changes of R.E.O.! T.W.O. was the very first album that I ever bought after seeing them.
Just seen REO last night 2023& they sounded great!! Kevin C is 72 yrs old and he sounded like he did 30 years ago!! REO was part of the soundtrack of my childhood!!❤
I was so lucky to grow up in Chicago at this time. We had Chicago, Styx, REO, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Commodores, Cheap Trick, The Smashing Pumpkins, NIN and so much more to go see. The two most underrated guitarists of all time are Terry Kath (Chicago) and Gary RIchrath (REO), I hope they know how much enjoyment they gave to so many people, and I surely hope they are playing up in Heaven. RIP.

REO Speedwagon was awesome live, especially with Gary Richrath and Alan Gratzer! I saw them April 13, 1978 at Cobo Hall in Detroit. Backstage passes and front row seats. Nothing better than that❤️
This was the best like up for REO. Kevin, Gary, Bruce, Neil, and Alan will always be the REO I will and want to remember. I got to work with these guys just before they hit the big time and will never forget it. Gary showed me a trick using the wah~wah pedal that I used for many many years. One "GREAT" bunch of guys for sure!!!
Im 14 I was watching this with my 5 year old brother and he screams "Last song people!!!" and I said I don't think Kevin says it on this video and he says "Well I said it for him!" And now were both singing to it together!!!!
Saw REO in Johnson City TN sometime in late 70's or so.....Climax Blues were supposed to open, for whatever reason never showed. Emcee came out and updated us occasionally. Finally said they weren't gonna show. Said REO would make it up, and man, DID THEY!! Played almost 2 1/2 hrs straight, took 20 min break, and another HOUR, and of course, ended with RIDIN THE STORM OUT! Words can't really describe that show!
Just saw REO Speedwagon last night in Bridgeport Connecticut September 16, 2022 . Vocals were on point. Kevin Cronin mentioned that he had just turned 70 and let me tell, that guy can move. Great evening with REO.
Coming up in KC I saw REO no less than a dozen times. Summer Jam 1977 at Royals stadium, it had been raining most of the day but stopped in time for the show. As REO was about to come on the storm rolled in and it started pouring, thunder and lightning and we thought it was over but no. Still pouring REO hit the stage and broke out with this song and didn't miss a beat. Most rocking concert moment of my life!
OMG! I Have told the story of this concert since I was 20!! Gary Richrath was right in my face! One of my friends went to the concert tonight In Atlanta and I was sharing the memory once again and so I searched RU-vid and found it and am so excited to actually see myself sitting on the shoulders of someone rocking out with him playing right in front of me 😆 thank you for sharing this video
This was my first concert Cheap Trick opened when REO came out they cranked up the volume about 3 time's the volume of Cheap Trick. We were sitting upper stage left very close to the speakers, I could feel my organs inside my body moving shaking, my ears rang for 3 days. They're still ringing. You had to be there it was so cool!!!
Where did you see that show? I saw it in San Francisco in like 79...my first concert...loved it of course! Became a lifestyle for at least 20 years....
It's mid '80s, Alpine Valley west of Chicago. Huge venue, lawn seats packed, raining buckets! We were having a ball riding the mud slides. Drenched having the time of our young lives when he calms the audience down to dedicate the next song. It's for all of us on the lawn, and they play this song!
This is one of those songs that is WAY better live than studio (Call Me the Breeze by Skynyrd too). Shame Gary couldn't put the bottle down; RIP Gary you damn sure could play!!
@@mattjennings6812 I think so….or complications from it. Tragic that so many great musicians from this great era of rock/pop music were gone too soon. p.s. but if you go even further back, pre-rock era, George Gershwin, the legendary composer of Rhapsody in Blue, Porgy & Bess, and so much more “great American music,” died at 39 of a brain tumor. I was gobsmacked when I found this out. What else he might have written, we’ll never know. 😢
And I got to see Skynyrd do The Breeze and REO do Ridin the storm out both in the same show- in Chicago! Soldier Field, July 1977. They kicked my ass, and Teddy was icing on the cake!👍🥁🎸🇺🇸❤️
I was actually at this concert. It was at Kemper Arena. Cheap Trick opened for REO, and it was one hell of an amazing concert. This was in the era where they really put on a great show and the music has never been equaled.
That by far was their best song ever. After that they sorta became a bubblegum pop group. But I saw them live in Atl in 1978 and they rocked the house down!😎🤘🤘
I loved REO before the High in Fidelity album. My 16 yr old neighbor chick played that album endlessly for a year, full blast. I still can't stand that album. It's refreshing to hear something from the early years!!😂
Mid 1980's, I remember riding my Harley Softail into Downtown Sturgis for Bike week (Early 1980's...From RI). The sky was pissing on me & I was soaking wet! You always remember the Hard times_ You always remember the good times too!!
Hall is rocking out on this version. It's fabulous. I never heard this bass line to this song. Other versions are more reserved, he's going nuts on this version. Bad ass.
Saw these guys quite a few years before this - as a HS junior on a college visit to Depauw University (their "Little 500" weekend, their biggest party). Styx and REO played at tiny Bowman Gymnasium to a packed and most enthusiastic house. REO opened for Styx (if memory serves) - but REO were the home town boys and tore the house down. Richrath was, as usual, on fire. (Styx was great too ... but REO was what I came to see - knew some of their roadies from Champaign). I saw them again much later, in larger arenas - and they were awesome. But there's nothing like seeing great bands in a small venue. That whole weekend was a great memory (well, some of it goes unremembered) - REO was definitely the highlight. My first raging hangover the next morning too.
I was at the summer jam 79..seen all the Summer Jams..so cool.I was at the Kansas city show in 85.I was also @ the October concerts 30th and 31..later to become a killer Double album live concert. My friends would ask me why have you gone to so many of there shows..Ahhhhhhhhhh because they Rock...
SummerJam '79 April Wine, Little River Band, Santana and REO Speedwagon. Rained like hell that morning, cleared up great show Then started raining it ass off during REO. What a great day!
@@kccryptkeeper4874 I also attended that one. Kevin made note of the storm for this song. The Summer Jam they played right before The Nuge and the sound complaints from miles away. Did the October 30 show at Memorial. Floor, about 2/3 back. Stood on my chair pretty much the entire show. Kemper for Tuna Fish tour. Remember the black and white stripes and the video from there shown on Midnight Special.
@@richavic4520 All those classic memories - foggy memories. Was at all of those, too. Loved Memorial Hall for concerts. Hell, if you were short on funds, ya could just go hang out anywhere within a block or so and could hear the show. Probably 7th & Central for Nuge.
Good God this gives me chills and I get emotional everytime I hear it! The intro! Gary Richrath! What a great luve tune and my favorite REO song of all time
Saw REO back in the mid 70’s in north Pekin, Illinois in a small Quonset hut building. Only about 100 people there, but they still played their hearts out. One of my favorite concerts I’ve ever seen.
