I didn't really find this record inconsistent as much as I just felt like it was a bit generic and missing the edge that made her previous work so good. That being said I'm not sure I would recommend any of it to you considering she used to work with Giga a lot more heavily. What you hate about his production style seems to be exactly what I love about it.
Thinking Reol is imitating Ado is just so fun when the first thing I asked myself the first time I’ve listened to Odo or Show it was if she was imitating Reol. The thing is that it’s not imitation but it’s just that Giga produced some Ado’s songs with his iconic style that’s basically part of half of Reol’s discography.
What really bothers me about the album is that she USED to do no wrong, but all of her recent stuff has just been a mess. It’s frustrating because she’s proven time and time again she can do better, but she’s just refusing to? I almost think there might be some behind the scenes stuff because how is this the same woman who made No Title?
This video is basically hating on a subculture of J-pop that became popular around 2016. But praising Sony's typical J-Pop. Reol just switched label and I do feel she got forced into this album... Some tracks are also remakes which also proves how rushed this album was. THO... Many songs are typical subculture reol's style. Venturing in some buzzing vibes.... which is what this guy? seems to hate. Personally I just find it sad that reol got signed to Sony... Sony loves to TRAP peoples in their non existent echosystem. For example they use special EQ tuning on tracks so that THEIR songs and THEIR songs only sound the best on their headphones... I get the move... But I still think its an ass move. Many "Audiophiles" aren't fans of Sony's audio... Its just always the mainstream same stuff "Pow Pow Pow" and no real "Boom" and the voices are often muffled.... Aaaaand you know what? Yup, this is exactly what is going on in this new album from Reol. Now, MANY J-pop songs actually follow this trend "Old Reol" was no exception, I guess its very prestigious to get signed by Sony in Japan... wouldn't be surprising lol ! Again, no hate to the business... Tho it creates unfortunate drawbacks. Maybe you tell yourself that I am over dramatizing all of this but I do feel like the older songs of Reol sounded WAY better... and many indie DJ she hired were MAD good !!!... Although... Not for every audio equipments. I own 2 pairs of high-end Bluetooth headphones (Beoplays and PX7s2), A TONE of other headphones and earbuds for reference + a sound system with a really good subwoofer. (I am a lot into music lol). The new Reol album sounds amazing on the Beoplays... But the beoplays copy the sound curve of Sony in a less agressive way. Voices are still slightly muffled on ANY headphones, speakers or earbuds tho. My Px7s2 are my go to headphones... Amazing headphones... really amazing lol, Tho not a lot of Jpop is good on them. a good rule of thumb tho is if it sounds good on the beoplays or sonys, it'll TYPICALLY mean that it'll sound bad on Px7 or the Subwoofer.... which there lies my issue !!... Sure... lets all copy eachothers, it cost less in production and bla bla... BUT IT F UP THE EXPERIENCE ! aaaaand unfortunately :)... Well peoples like me who are there for the ride... Well we are few. VERY few... so we are not marketable. We do not bring in the cash lol ! 2 of my most Favorite artists of ALL TIME use the Sony's EQ, Sean Paul and Reol.... which I hate this so much lol ! Hilcrhyme actually made high-end songs lately. Nena makes high-end songs. ... Thats about it. some other artists made high-end songs (You can check them in my "Px7s2 playlist" on my profile... but THEY ARE FEW. Very few. Anyways, all that to say, getting signed to sony since 2012 is just an insult to music quality lol. They're so manipulative I just can't. Like the muffling voice "Style" they have for example, their Flagship headphone does that slight muffling of voice (So you lose a lot of female voice detail, Try listen to Tatu on Sony's VS Px7... I swear you'd cry lol !... Its that much different.) So when they release songs under their label, they tune their songs to be muffled... So on NON-Sony headphones it'll be slightly more muffled than on Sony's headphones. Pro tip: you can go in Audio store and test all that by yourself... Its very eye opening ! All and all to me, Sony fd the music industry.
my first vids were made using philips SHP9500s, from march-august i used sennheiser HD6XX's, and now I alternate between those and AKG K371's. don't own any sony stuff.
