This review is extremely helpful. Thank you for covering actual real-life use with footage and audio from multiple scenarios (and not just info that is easily found online). Brilliant!
hahah here I go again .... ok I am on the right place because I saw you're review of the 180 big one with zoom. I am convinced that the reolink series is one of the best. No scamming, no expensive subs, no "big brother is watching you". I got 5 of a Chinese one but I have to say they are all really really good but I have to use an Monitor, no app, no alert only a HD. Thats not the thing I want. The Follow focus which comes from the drone technique is obviously the thing that rules in the future. Thx for the review because I wanna by the night star ones and youre review makes it easy to get the right decision. Really good review thx for that. Stay healthy and best wishes from Germany.
Thanks for the excellent review. I have a couple of Reolink PTZ cameras and this Argus 3 Pro fits a need nicely. Ordered it while the video was still going :D
Glad it was helpful Timothy! We are very impressed with this camera. It is great for security and I have not touched it since I finished the video, so the solar panel seems to be doing it's job. It alerts us everytime we have visitors and is very reliable. :-)
Great camera and thanks for your detailed assistance , my camera just will not connect to my Wi-Fi , I have tried many many times it just won’t connect , any advice , thanks again
I have this camera and it will work with a 128GB Card. So far it has been a decent camera. You have to really spend some time playing with the sensor to get it right.
Very nice. About as nice or better than the Arlo Pro 3 set up I have but without the monthly subscription. Emailing videos is something Argus does that Arlo doesn't do. I'm going to give these a try.
Looks like you have to wait until camera is fully charged before trying to connect to wifi... My attempt on 2 devices to connect to wifi w low battery failed.
Russel I wonder if you can help me set this up , when I try I get recorded voices in many languages and nothing else , I have reset the camera and still when I try to set up I get recorded voices “ Welcome to Reolink” it goes on and on , ? Did you get this during set up , I have been trying off and on for 2 days and am about to return the camera , no help from Reolink support about to give up , any advice from you before I return , Many Thanks
I do not use any cloud features. I have a memory card installed. The camera sends me a notification and an email with a video clip if it detects something David. This is a very good security camera. :-)
Hello Russel, Thank you for the very nice review of the Argus! If i may ask, how long the battery last with bad weather conditions? Further more, i like the small build of this camera, and i wonder if Reolink have wire-connected small cameras like the Argus. Greetings, Guus
This is difficult to answer. I charged the battery before starting the review and fitted the solar panel at the end after a few days. The battery was at 82% after lots of activations, at a guess around 200, certainly more than 100 and a lot of live viewing. Once I fitted the solar panel, the battery screen showed it charging and the level went from 82% to 100% instantly. Obviously an issue with the software, so I have not been able to monitor the level with the solar panel plugged in. I just pulled out the solar panel cable from the camera and the level is 83%. We have had virtually constant bad weather and overcast skies since I posted the review, including a very bad storm and a power outage for 26 hours :-( Hardly any sunshine. The camera has activated many times, I would guess around another 200 times. So it has charged 1% during very adverse conditions using the solar panel. I think the battery would last a long time under normal conditions without the solar panel and not need charging under normal conditions with the solar panel. I hope this helps! :-)
It is pretty good as far as connectivity is concerned Dean, but needs to have a reasonable WiFi signal where it is mounted. I love this camera it is such a good security device! :-)
Hi Russell, Great review, many thanks. I am a great fan of Reolink and have several of their cameras, they also have excellent customer service, should you need it. I had considered the Argus 3 in the past for an outside application but was concerned about how weatherproof it is with the USB connector and speaker slots etc. How do you think it will stand up to the UK wet weather? Also wondered what sort of distance away from the router can you get? Thanks again.
Hi Peter. I think the camea will be fine outside here in the UK. It has the new soft rubber seals that seem to work really well. You should always put a drip loop (U bend) in the cable to prevent water running into the seal. I think that this is a great security camera and it is very reassuring to know that if someone approaches my door, I will be informed almost immediately. The notifications are quick and it is very reliable. The WiFi range seems good compared to other cameras I have. :-)
Hello Mr Russell I have a question for you I got 3 cameras and I was wondering if I need to have the sd card for them to work let me know thank's and Advance
We have a cat Rob and it does not activate the camera. I can't remember whether I reduced the sensitivity or not, but it is not a problem with my set up. :-)
Thanks for the video Russell, I'm thinking of getting this system to monitor my place in Spain (connected to my Spanish WiFi). Do you know if the talk feature will still work if I'm in the UK and wlll reaction times be OK (don't want to be alerted 30 minutes after the house has been burgled!!). Cheers
It should work Steve. There will definitely be lag on the comms, but it depends on your internet connections at both ends. Notifications should be quick, no more than a few seconds. :-)
Hi, do you know why when you plug in the solar panel into the camera it gives you a different battery reading on the app, however when you take the solar cable out it gives you the real reading, is this normal? Did u come across this?
@@RussellPlatten thank you ..so I just turn the camera on when I ...say get to the beach ,it will record ..but I have to set it up over wifi first ....thank once again 👍
@@clive7788 Yes, you need to set up the camera first. You could them move it away from the WiFi signal and it would still record to the mico SD card if you had set it up for motion detection. :-)
@@clive7788 I would not use this camera for general filming away from home. You cannot record manually or for any length of time. I think it would be ok for remotely filming wildlife, but there are better alternatives. :-)
I have only charged it once since I fitted it. It gets a lot of use so I reckon if you do not have a lot of ativity where it is installed, you may not have to charge the battery! :-)
@@RussellPlatten Thanks for the review, I have done some research on this camera and other wifi wireless cameras, do you recommend this camera for outdoor harsh weather conditions with driving rain and wind, and what about putting a silicon case to protect it, I can see it is rated for IP65 on the specs?
Our camera is mounted in a reasonably exposed area. It has been exposed to occasional very heavy rain, long periods of moderate rain and temperatures of up to 40 deg c and down to a few degrees below zero. The camera has been fine. There have not been any long periods of heavy rain or high/low temperatures. The camera has been fine, as have all of my other Reolink cameras. I have in the past had a Reolink camera that misted up in wet weather, but that was a few years ago. I think if I wanted to protect mine, I would make a simple wooden hood to fit over the top of it. :-)
Sounds like you are trying to put the card in the wrong way or there is an issue. There is only one size/type of micro SD card. If you cannot get it to fit, contact Reolink support Alicia. :-)
Hello how much is the minimum time in seconds in the "customize" mode in the time lapse section? i have the eco model and i can't take less than 10 seconds, thanks
If you watch the video, the "welcome to Reolink" at 4:32 indicates that the camera is connected to the router. Have you ticked "I have heard the voice prompt" when the camera says "connection to the camera succeded," 4:36 on the video? There is only a quick shot of this on the video. I suspect you are already connected.
Thanks Russell , I get to the point where router detected , then it will not connect, but the problem is the continuous voice coming from the camera ,,,,,,,Welcome to Reolink , download the app, well after the app has been downloaded , the only way to stop these Recorded voices is to switch the camera off , I have contacted Reolink support twice , without any response , this is why I contacted you , do you also get the recorded ladies voice continually. As I didn’t hear anything in your video , I am stuck now as no support from Reolink and I seem to be going around in. IRC,sent with this camera , probably best to send it back ,
@@alexhardie1404 What you see on the video is what I got Alex, no issues with mine al all. I take it you don't have another device to download the app to and try again?
I bought two of these after watching your video. Too be honest they are hopeless unless you only need the camera to cover a very tiny area. You allude to this at the end of the video when you say it is a disappointing feature, but too be honest it's one of the most important. It doesn't pick up anything on my drive way until really close to the house. The instructions claim it will detect motion up to 10 metres away and this is a total lie.
Yes, but if you look at 7:53 on the review, you can see the video clip that the camera sends via email if it detects movement. I am happy with that. It is good enough to recognise people and you can make out the reg plate. I am not prepared to pay for cloud storage. :-)
