Why do all CCTV cameras look shit? Im sorry but If i sat my iPhone 12 up (not particularly new) and recorded long distance would be soo much clearer. I am seeking the highest quality camera and frame rate regardless of cost - can you please recommend? As every example at distance looks like camera quality from the early 2000's on phones to me..
It's a continuous recoding camera meant to be outside in the elements. You're looking at a company that makes equipment affordable. You can look into premium equipment made usually for government/business, and those will satisfy your needs, but the price will definitely increase.
If you need to see something distant, you need a camera with optical zoom. Even a high-quality 4K camera without optical zoom will look bad if you need to zoom in to something very far away. That being said, if you want a camera with a super clear image, you need a professional brand like Axis, Avigilon, Panasonic, or Bosch.
Great video on cameras, as always! One think for future recordings, before using terms like NVR & POE Injector, say the meaning before using the abbreviations. Small but helpful point. I’d like to know where you physical added the POE injector in your install. I know the category or cable used might need to change to handle the voltage. Thanks, your the camera man!
Reolink has great quality video for the price, but I hate how you can see the IR at night. Why they can filter out the visible red light out, just doesn't make any sense.
Just curious... you mentioned at the end of the video that Reolink still doesn't have a POE camera with starlight/low light sensor. That still seems to be the case. What other NVR/POE camera mfgs do ?
Other brands like Annke, Amcrest, Lorex, Dahua, Hikvision have camera models that have starlight sensors…I don’t have an idea why Reolink doesn’t offer one.
I have 4 of the 8mp RLC-810A and the one pointed on my back porch gave me an alert at 3:30am there is a person on the back porch. It was a raccoon standing up on its back legs. I cropped the picture and it looks just like Rocket from Guardians of the Galaxy. Rocket came to visit me I feel so special... :) These Reolink camera systems are pretty darn good!
Cool.. Thanks for sharing. The AI detection on most if not all of these cameras are based off in the shape of the motion..You gave me an idea though for a video..What do you think if I crawl in front of the camera that has person detection only, will it detect me? :)
@@LifeHackster just to confirm my understanding of Poe cams You would only need the camera? You can connect this directly to your modem and which sends the signal to your phone? I don’t need to record video just send motion detection alert to my Iphone
You are welcome...hold off though because I'm going to compare this to the 811A optical zoom with a widest of 105 degrees and we will see if there is a big difference as to 12MP to an 8MP one.
Good Day love your video reviews, a sample question I have purchased the Reolink RLC-811A and have notice on the your reviews under Display setting where you press clear mode. On the Reolink app that clear mode doesn't display. can you advise on how to make it appear, thank you.
Excellent little review. It seemed that you can have the spotlights turn on only when motion is detected? That would be a great feature if so. If that is possible I think I’ll go for four of them 😊
Many of the missing reolink settings that you have mentioned are available for the 822a but you need to update the firmware from their website manually
Does this 1212A model have zoom at all? I see that the 812a does have a 3 or a 5x zoom. Which camera is better, in your opinion? I want to order one asap. Thanks pal! Love your videos! I ordered 3 other Eufy cameras because of your videos. I just want to buy one or 2 more 4k models now. Thanks!
It will be nice to see how digital zoom perform between 12mp and 8mp. Because that will be the reason for me go pick 12mp. Will I be able to read the license plate via digital zoom? If so, how far.
FOV is always going to be more superior than megapixels... a zoomed in 1080p camera can see more clearly than a wide FOV like this camera even it has 12MP. However, you are trading in on what the camera sees.
I bought a RLC-810A a while ago thinking it would be the 'silver bullet' to my POE & Person detection requirements. Unfortunately, in my own circumstances it was TERRIBLE at the person detection and I would get false positive alerts constantly throughout the day and night and I ended up disabling it. I went through their support and tried different firmwares and nothing improved. Hopefully in newer versions like this it is improving?
great review as always. Im glad I waited a bit for your review on the 1212a before ordering 2 more 810a cameras. this 1212a could be my new go to choice 810a upgrade/replacement later on.
Nope... that's old school... I remember those times.. just setup and add the camera by itself or to the Reolink NVR in the app..and you can view the cameras via the app.
Can anybody confirm if the two-way audio working without a NVR? There are a red note on Reolinks product pages on both RLC-1212A and RLC-1224A saying: "Note: This function is only available in Reolink App/Client when connected to Reolink NVR RLN8-410 or RLN16-410."
Nice review again. Have seen many of your reviews and they really are the most meaningful out there. My compliments!' What I find strange about the RLC-1212A is that despite the considerably higher resolution, it has a considerably smaller sensor of 1/2.49" while the lower resolution CX410 has a much larger sensor of 1/1.8". If the sensor of the RLC1212A were as large, the light sensitivity at dark would be a lot better. Unfortunately, the lens must be larger to cover the larger sensor. I hope Reolink come with a 4K model wit bigger sensor.
What can i do with the reset and the 12v plugs? Without using a junction box mounted on a brick wall? I would like to discard the plugs so wiring looks clean.
Little disappointed with my Reolink 823A PTZ 4K. If you walk up to and under the camera it doesn't track you it loses you very quickly and doesnt tilt down and then around to follow you. It only tracks you successfully if you keep a far distance from the camera and pan left to right. Yes it will tilt down a little bit to keep you centre frame but again, not if you walk right up to and then under the camera. Ie. completely defeats the purpose of its ability to tilt down directly 90degrees because thats the only time you'd need to tilt down 90 degrees (if someone walked up to and then under it) THey shrugged off these complaints when i mentioned it to them on their reddit and forum post too. Need to get their act together for target tracking, very lack lustre tracking.
After setting up the camera with my phone, does the system need access to the internet? I am only looking to view live video from my phone from a closed wifi connection (without access to the wider internet). I have no need to capture or store video.
Hi thnks for the review, too bad you didnt show the plate number reading from 5O feets at night. Sounds like it cant read anything. Same for sound if you are not directly at few feets from the camera. Doesnt look impressive for what it is supposed to do: security at 50 feet or 100 feet
I really love my Reolink set up and i love the fact that I can just simply interchange the cameras on the NVR. Makes it easy to just buy 1 of these and replace one of older ones or mix and match. I think I'll grab one of these to replace the camera keeping an eye on my front door.
No, it doesn’t have wifi. If you are directly connecting this camera to an NVR or a power over Ethernet switch, it can supply power and data to the camera using just the Ethernet cable, so no need for the power port. If you’re using an Ethernet switch that doesn’t have power over Ethernet however, you need an Ethernet cable for data but also a separate power supply for the camera, that’s what the power port is for. But in any case, you will always need to plug in an Ethernet cable into the camera.
No WIFI on this one. This is wired and directly connects to your router (which you will need the 12 volt power supply) or use a PoE switch or injector or connect to Reolink's NVR.
Hey bud thanks for all the great content on CCTV cams. Just wondering if Reolink ships their 12mp 16 channel system comes with PoE cables, or do you have to purchase separate? Thank again
It only comes with a 1m cable for setting up. If hooking to an NVR you are best crimping your own Ethernet cables to your desired length. This way you can also get external rated wires if required.
This 12MP has a bunch of additional features compared to the new 810A with a wide 2.8mm lens. Plus those extra MPs will help when you need to see detail on such a wide angle, especially when zooming in. The only downside IMO is the framerate.
@@paulwarnow1377 Tell that the Truth? Why, Am I lying? You need to tell that to Reolink, they are the ones advertising it as 12MP ... I'm not sure if you watched my videos..and my comparison between their regular 8MP because the 8MP is better but also narrower FOV. Anyways, what I know is that you were spamming the comments because you have a beef with Reolink.
If you want colour at night then the CX410 would be the better choice. However if you want a camera with a large field if view then the 1212a is the better option. It just depends on what you want.
This is the model that I'm going to compare it to...because the FOV is the closest 107 vs 105 and we really can see the difference if there is any between a 12MP to an 8 MP one.
