For those who are afraid of opening the laptop because all the screws. It's not that complicated. There are only 5 types of screws on the laptop. 1)black screws - they are on outer shell and below the keyboard. They are interchangeable, so don't worry if you mix them up. They amount for the largest part of the screws. 2) thick black screws. There are only two of these screws they go on the outer shell near where the battery is. 3) tiny black screws. There are 4. One of them is located below the hard drive and three of them go below the DVD ROM. 4) Silver screws. They go on the mother board. They are interchangeable. Only put them on the places that have arrows on the motherboard. The heatsink is hold by some of these screws too. 5) Fan screw. There is only one of these. Is black but is less thicker than the black screws. Also you don't really need to disconnect the ram or the WiFi card to get the motherboard out. Also if you don't get any display after assembly its probably the RAM. You gotta press those pins harder. My laptop didn't do any beeps so don't think that if it doesn't beep then the Ram is well placed. If the comment was helpful give it a thumbs up so everyone can see it. PS: keyboard was the HARDEST part for me to take out. So try to see if everything works before putting it back on. You don't need the keyboard for the computer to function normally.

Just finished cleaning my laptop. I was watching You on my phone step by step, screw by screw :) . Found so much dust that air couldn't go through which was making lap HOT. Put everything back together, no screw neither part left :P Everything working good. Thank You for help and for making me happy due to doing it all by myself.

Thank you very much for this guide. I was able to follow along and ultimately be able to re-apply thermal paste, aswell as cleaning the heat sink. - Results: (exact model = X53SV-SX437V) Before: 60c idle temp (WITH HIGH FAN SPEED) ~3800 rpm. After: 50c idle temp (WITH VERY LOW FAN SPEED) ~2200 rpm. After: 70c under load with ~3800 rpm. - Now this rather big improvement is most likely also due to the previous "professional" who serviced the machine, applying thermal paste incorrectly. There seemed to be missing thermal paste in the middle of the cpu. Again, thank you for this video.

I cleaned my Asus k53s today and I'm happy with the result. I was little confused because I accidentally put some screws in the wrong gaps wich created problems but I set it back right. In the beginning when I turned on my laptop again the fan made more noise than before I disassembled it, but that was only for a short time. After a few minutes and some heavy load benchmark tests the fan spun a little faster and began running smoothly. Now in idle mode my laptop is more quiet and the fan spins like it was new 3 years ago. Also the pile of dust that I removed makes the heat sink cool down in seconds!

Asus and other laptop manufacturers seriously need to be innovative in their laptop designing. All these hassles just to brush off dirt from the fan? Dirt clogging on the fan is the reason why laptop become overheating and slow, and worst dead laptop. So Why cant they just design one easy access for user to take out fan, clean it, and attach it back

Yeap, I managed to take apart and dissemble a few months back with this video help. Unfortunately, the motherboard has finally gone kaput last week after almost 5 years of heavy and rough use. And after 21 years of using Windows since I was a 9 years old, I'm about to migrate to macbook as now my focus on video and music editing.

my brother in law bought one late in 2011. I upgraded it 3 years ago with another stick of 4 gb ram (i dont remember if it was ddr3l) and an ssd of 256 GB (840 evo samsung). With this upgrade (expecially the ssd) the machine still rocks as the cpu is still reasonably powerfull! The problem is that it gets very hot and the fan is always spinning! Untill it works fine fine i will not open it only to risk a brakedown! p.s. Man you did all this excellent job but you really should use a compressed air can, it really helps out! Firthermore once opened i would change the thermal paste with a good and fresh one""

*OMG..........all of that and the million screws just to get to the fan? Maybe Asus should watch this and just make a panel on the bottom where that fan is so you can clean it or replace the damn thing instead of major surgery! I would lose a few screws at least. How about you stop by my place and take care of mine for me? So far I have been using this high-tech trick.....I tap that corner just above the ESC key with my TV remote so it stops the buzzing fan for hours.......well so far anyway >:-P*
