In this episode Nick shows you the ups and downs of dent repair! Using simple tools - a flat faced hammer, a few dollies, slappers, a long board and a shrinking disk he diligently works on restoring the hood's original curvature. Nick also shares a great tip to get you out of a bind if you don't own a shrinking disk.

Thanks!! I appreciate that. The disk is a more effective on bare metal. For this video I left the primer on as it made things easier for viewers to see.

Most shops would have tossed the hood out 😂 it’s amazing that you could save it 👍😎

Just about anything can be repaired given enough time. Still have a bit to go before I'm happy with things. It was a solid hood overall and to find another would be a challenge...esp here in Ontario. Thanks for watching!

If you make that transparent metal too thin, even the untrained eye can see through it. Gret video Nick. It's fun watching you have fun.

It's not a miracle worker, but it helps once the metal has been brought in to where it needs to be. Thanks for watching!

Yeah, I had to go back and see you with that plannisher again. That's a brilliant tool. I've read about guys using a palm nailer with a carriage bolt hammering head for doing bodywork in tight places where a hammer couldn't swing. Perhaps sell plans for that little invention you have there, Nick? And great bodywork video as usual!

To try out I made a shrinking disc out of a saucepan lid that had the same profile as a bought one, hardest bit was getting the hole exactly in the middle!

Hey Nick, I had missed this a couple of days ago. It popped up on my feed but I was really busy at work. BTW, have you ever seen John Kelly's videos? He uses a palm nailer to flare Karmann Ghia fenders. I have two (2) of his videos. "Tuck Shrinking" and "Custom Metal Bodywork". They're not too bad.

Hi Nick, any plans on how you made the base of the plannisher?
@iNVisionPrototypes
@iNVisionPrototypes Год назад
Sorry, nothing on paper. Usually just scrounge up some parts from around the shop and slap it together, no pun intended.

Hi Nick, nice work with the shrinking disc. Does the die grinder on your planisher simply act as a handle and air actuator? Nice little tool, good thinking.

How did you make that planishing tool? I don't understand how a die grinder would attach to a palm nailer like that
@iNVisionPrototypes
@iNVisionPrototypes Год назад
Head of the die grinder was shot, but the handle with trigger still worked. Using the fitting that attached to the head I welded up a transition coupler to join the nailer and trigger handle together. Hope that helps explain. Thanks for watching!
@AJsHotRodsNrepairs
@AJsHotRodsNrepairs Год назад
@@iNVisionPrototypes oh okay so the grinder is essentially a long air fitting with a valve that isn't rotating. That makes more sense, great idea you came up with 👍
