Repair Shop Destroys Xbox Series X HDMI - Let's Fix It! A viewer named John sent this Xbox Series X to a repair company for HDMI port repair but the company said they couldn't fix it because it had too many broken traces. So John sold the console to me for $400 so I could make this video trying to fix it.

As an owner of a private repair shop, I emplore anyone in need of repairs to ensure that diagnostics are free or very close to it. Anyone who's competent would rather have you as a repeat customer than steal away a bill from you.

When i did computer repair, the shop i worked for had a standard $25 fee, just to cover some of the time we would need to check out the computer to see what was wrong. No fix, no charge as well. No one seemed to have any issue with this.
@lookitskazzy

repair attempt/diagnostic fees are to cover YOUR time for taking a look at the item, disassembly/reassembly, doing research, etc. why sell yourself short by giving labor away for free? 99 is a bit high but it's not unreasonable to charge between 25 to 50. even that is probably too low given operating costs etc. but people are cheap these days.

@@witebatman This is a small claims court issue. The value is pretty low and in small claims you can just represent yourself. Whether or not it is worth your time to do so is another question though. Also I would imagine the threshold would be "preponderance of evidence" instead of beyond a reasonable doubt. I think most (if not all) civil cases use the preponderance threshold whereas criminal cases use the beyond a reasonable doubt threshold. They would still have some issues trying to prove that the repair show did it, would likely need to bring in some form of witness to testify to the fact that traces don't just rip themselves off of boards or something. I don't imagine most judges have a lot of electronics repair knowledge so they'd have to be educated in some way to see why it was likely the shop did the damage themselves.

The most wires I've ever had to add to a HDMI port in place of traces was 6. Getting them to solder to the traces and getting a stable signal within HDMI spec was rough. Gotta hand it to you. I probably wouldn't have bothered. Especially since this is HDMI 2.0. The signal margin on those is ridiculous.

I don't understand how a business can legally charge money when they did not provide the agreed upon service. To me this is yet more proof that there's 2 sets of rules, one for the wealthy elite and one for regular folks. When can a regular person just demand money for nothing? That would never fly. But a business? Well that is apparently fine. Ain't capitalism grand? Profit through whatever means you can get away with.

Here in the U.K. there doesn’t seem to be enough control over who can open a repair shop. Luckily I’ve never seen a repair attempt as bad as this was when you got it but no one should be allowed to do that to someone else's property. I dont agree that there needs to be control over who can open a repair shop but there should be control over stuff like this where they damaged it more and charged, but having control over who can open a business shoudnt be it, otherwise itll just be more things like apple authorized shops and no one that sides with right to repair will ever want Note: idk anything about starting businesses but i wouldnt think there is control over who can open what, just if they are able to afford it and comply with regulations or get shut down like a restaurant if a random health inspector shows up and sees pests or something they can get the place shut down, like i feel anyone should be able to open a business and it either fail or succeed if they do a good job with their work or pricing compared to competitors ect.
