We bought the kit with the motor. My husband was convinced that it was the gear so he only replaced the motor and gear box and sure enough it worked! We could have saved more than $100.00 by just buying the gear. Also, the complete set is half the price online.
Thanks! I have replaced the gears on every window on my Mazda CX 7 this way. They all stripped out within a 10 year time period. The 1st one broke just after the warranty ran out. The dealer cost was outrageous.... Never again. Now I can fix my own for roughly $7.00 to $8.00. And you can too! Good luck!

Thank you for the video. I’d like to give some info. There are 2 tabs that you can pull so you can break the motor apart without brute force. Just saying lol
I found that in almost every case I cracked open the 2 tabs snap off from plastic dry rot anyway. But the bolts that attach the motor to the door frame also hold the casing together so it doesn't matter. Thanks for the tip though 👍😁.
Since i have not torn it apart yet I would like to know is it usually or always the gear you showed needing replacing? Do the other gears ever strip? So if the others don't i would just need the one gear, correct? thanks
In every single motor I've taken apart this far it is ALWAYS the large gear teeth that are stripped out. I have yet to find a small gear that is stripped..and I've never spent a penny on buying the package with the smaller gears in them. Hopefully yours is the same, but they are all easily replaced if there's more than one. The larger gear is thinner and therefore is usually the culprit when the window stops working. Hope this helps.
@@Galb1BlueLeader thanks for this video. I finally got my part in and tore my door apart and the broken gear looked exactly like your broken gear. I replaced it like you showed and the rubber didn't seat as well with the new part so used the old part to sit on the rubber to sit on the new gear and it seated perfectly. Up and running. Thanks for the tips on opening the motor gear cause I can guarantee I would have broken it without seeing your video..
I screwed mine up. I had no idea how brittle the plastic was going to be. One of the tabs broke completely off. I tried looking for the plastic cover and I don’t know of it exists. Now, I’m going to have to purchase a new one.
I'm sure that just the two tabs will be enough to hold the motor to the door frame, of course still use all 3..it may still be helpful. As long as you replaced the stripped out gear inside I would definitely try it before purchasing a whole new motor. It's worth a shot!
@@Galb1BlueLeader Thank you! I was thinking about that. I don’t think this requires a lot of force to get it to stay in place. I might be able to place the broken tab back over the hole and then place a washer over that with just enough pressure to keep it snug . 👍
@@Galb1BlueLeader It was a success! I just used the 2 bolts to hold both the top & bottom part of the case and the third is holding the bottom half of the case & the window is rolling up and down just fine. Is actually moving a little faster than the passenger front window. Thanks

It's usually only the bigger gear that strips out so that may be the only gear you need. But they have the entire set in case you find more damaged ones inside.
Once I fixed all of my windows they'll last 2 or 3 years of heavy use. Obviously longer if you use your air conditioner alot and don't roll your windows up and down all of the time. It's worth fixing.. DON'T TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP. THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF! My first broken window motor cost me almost $500 at a dealership. After that nightmare I've fixed all my other motor gears myself. It's really easy. Save your money 😁.
