Really late but if you take the clock and turn it upside down and feed the chan in and around the gear using back acess then when you get to legnth in you can string it back a challage or you can take it apart and get to the gears easyer

So sorry! I gave this clock away. No longer have it. But it is probably 1500 gram weights.

On my cook o'clock, The one chain moves freely and side the mechanism does not kedge would you think you would need to change out the mechanism?

Great question. There are a couple of things. Make sure the cuckoo clock is very level, side to side and front to back. Makes a difference and the number one thing about a clock that slows then stops is that it might be out of beat. You need to do something called adjusting the beat of it. easy to find info on that.

***** Just for anyone else who would be interested in oiling, it would be best to search the internet to get clear and precise instructions. The basics in a nutshell: a) Experts recommend only synthetic lubricants as they will not attract dust as much as petroleum based oils; b) NEVER apply lubricant to gear teeth, as this will collect dust particles which can stop a cuckoo clock movement dead in its tracks; c) apply lubricant only to the gear shaft bushings/pivot points - every shaft, and both ends of each shaft; d) wipe off any excess lubricant with a lint-free cloth. As I am only an amateur hobbyist, I am sure there are "experts" out there who would point out all the ways in which I am wrong - why don't you write a book on the subject, and try to sell THAT?

It is quite possible the chain simply came off the gear.

Take a close look, use a magnifier if need be. The chains are usually pretty easy to put back on.

Sorry no. I say it is worth bringing to repair shop.

I had my chain come off of the gear before, I fixed it by taking the clock apart and using pliers, and a screw driver to get it back on.

broken gear. $100 repair. At least I found someone to it.

That probably included the cleaning too which wasn't too bad. If the chain come off the wheel a piece of a wire coat hanger with the end bent in the shape of an S or a hook will save you a lot of stress in putting it back on.

+Jimmy G Hi Jimmy, wonderful find! I don't do repair requests. But, there are people that do. You should be able to find someone local. Thing about it is that it tends to be expensive! If I were you, I would repair it myself. That would be a fun learning experience. And very rewarding once you got it going!

If you mean the hammer that strikes the gong, no, it's part of the works. You can carefully try to bend it to where it was before or the gong can be adjusted up or down to touch the striking hammer.

The other poster is correct. The movement needs to be cleaned. If the clock runs but looses time and you have to reset it again and again to get it to run faster, the kindest thing you can do is stop running it until you can get it cleaned. The dirt gets into the pivots and will grind up the holes wearing the works. Unfortunately, I hear nothing but bad things about Hubert Herr works. It could be that the works are failing. If so, I would urge you to not go back to Hurbert Herr works. Regula, if it would fit, is the way to go. Replacement works can be found on EBAY rebuilt with new bushings for about 125 dollars.

There should be some kind of a leaf or ornament on the pendulum. That slides up and down. Slide it up to speed up the clock. It takes time, little at a time until you get the time right.

It has to be very level, both side to side and front to back. Does it swing a few times then stop?

@@epicfantasy It is on level. Kept at 6.5 ft high. I can send you pictures and even videos or can chat with you. Please help as I bought for my kids and now they are dissapointed

CHeck to make sure it is level front to back also. That's important. From there google something called setting the beat of a cuckoo clock. It's an easy process. Dont think I made a video on it. That's usually the culprit after leveling.
