Great job, Thanks! I wonder if you can learn from this that if it has 5 volts but only pulling 200ma then it's the secondary processor and if no 5 volts then it's the main processor?
I would still lay blame to the main processor first if 5V is present. Its second most common failure behind power chip . If there is no 5V then the power management chip is usually bad. If its the 6800 is shorted bringing the 5V down you'll know cause it will be hot as hell and likely putting your supply in CC mode.
@@ecurepair Thanks. Do you know of any proper training I can take on Board repair? I have the tools and got pretty good at soldering but don't know anything about Diagnosing the problem and all the different chips, etc.
I am working on recapping a 97 Ram 1500 ECU. Can you advise me whether or not I can replace the old liquid electrolytics with solid polymer of similar voltage, capacitance and size or will the low ESR cause problems? There's only 3 caps on this board. Thank you!
I dont think the low esr will cause any problems. These are just filter caps. Not sure how the filtering will be effected but I doubt it matters all that much.
Was wondering if you could give an opinion on a dodge I'm working with . I'm at my wits end on an 07 ram 5.7 , only have 1 code 1279 , no start condition , have signal from pcm to tipm , no starter output voltage from tpim (i believe it is c9-pin2). Not much info to go by figured id see if maybe its something common you have run across before . Have good comms and cant seem to find anything else at fault . Tried swapping out the TIPM with a used unit but same outcome . Not sure what direction to go . Love your videos , i've watched pretty much all of them . Thanks
I'd hate to give you bad advice. I dont know much about diag while stuff is on the vehicles but I would check live data to see if the Skim/WCM is sending the start command when key is turned, if it is and tipm was replaced with same outcome then its possible the driver in pcm is at fault. If the Skim/WCM is not sensing the start command, then its possible the plastic ignition switch is faulty and not making contact for start command or possible the skim could be at fault tho the metal key type are usually pretty solid. Once long ago, I had a tech working on a Nitro. Same symptoms, no start command. They replaced and had me program the TIPM first, Then PCM and Finally the SKIM. Still the same DTC in skim (i forgot what it was sorry). Turned out there was some issue with the battery, I guess some type of internal short. It was showing as somewhat good voltage so no one really paid much attention to it. Eventually I guess they put another to do some testing and after replacing it all the problems where gone and it cranked like normal again. I would like to mention, the bad battery had been disconnected and reconnected several times so it was not an issue of anything getting reset from disconnecting it.
@@ecurepair Thanks for the assist . From your reply - "It was showing as somewhat good voltage so no one really paid much attention to it." This is what I went after . Testing both tipm units on the bench reveled they were in good working order . I found that on the truck the tipm seemed to "go to sleep" so i began to hunt for some type of voltage deviation . I eventually found one that seemed about 1/2 volt low , i'd have to look at the wiring diagram again but I believe it was related to the brake light circuit . Turns out it was a partially corroded wire that could carry most of the voltage but when loaded by ignition stuff via the key it would fall on its face . So at the end of the day lack of current to a portion of the tipm was the issue because of the state of the wire . O , and the wire was of course buried deep inside a huge harness . Based on the condition of the rest of the harness/wires I'd actually be willing to bet this issue was created when the harness was built at the factory . A perfect 1/2 inch slice peeled open like a banana from corrosion in the middle of a harness that looks otherwise perfect . Tricky diag but its down the road now . I have some other questions regarding bench testing but I'll leave that for another time . Thanks again for your input .
Just been doing some research I have a 96 dodge ram 5.9 Magnum it was dying when I hit bumps in the road, and if I gently wiggle the plugs of the computer, it will restart, but if you wiggle them again, it will die or it won’t idle, but it’s obviously all right there What is your opinion? Is it related to the plugs or is it the computer itself? It’s very clean. I put dielectric grease in the plugs just trying to decide. Do I need a new computer or what? Thank you for any help
i would look from broken wire terminal inside harness for what your describing. But the ecu at that age should be rebuilt before its too late and the caps destroy the power management area,
@@ecurepair hey I really appreciate the response. I’ve been a mechanic my whole life and I do it 40+ hours a week I’m a fair hand, but I’ll be honest with you. I wouldn’t have the slightest idea how to remove those female pins out of those plugs I did get the back off of each of the three but the way they’re going into the connector. I don’t know how to release them. You’re being very honest with me appreciate your knowledge, because we are ready to get a computer. How would I go about getting to the actual wires crimp connector within the plug? I really truly appreciate your responses to this kind of at our wits end here seems to be the farthest towards the driver side, this truck was “chipped” and my son drove over to high school. I know he done some wiggling on that plug at some busy city intersections.I figured it damaged something So yeah, if you can tell me how to release those female pins I would love to check them out today. It’s sitting in the shop waiting for the next move. Thanks 💯 The symptoms are no start just cranking , wiggle the plug it will start but you have to hold the RPMs up for about 30 seconds or it’s like the throttle positioning sensor is not getting read then it will idle and then it may just literally shut off or until you touch one of those plugs, like I said, mostly the one farthest to the left sitting in the driver seat
@@ecurepair thanks for the link.I goofed and took it apart in the middle now all my barrell ends are loose The reason I took it apart was I didn't have the tool I found what you claimed to me C1 Pin 31/32 or 30/31 don't remember are grounds and when I wiggle those it kills the truck. Sure enough when I inspected them they look like they're corroded or have gotten hot. Sadly, the two pins on the computer look like they're burnt at the base of the pins, but I'm not for sure how to crimp new terminals onto those wires yet I have the complete set up GM Weather pack stuff. I use all the time, but this set up is kind of new to me. Thanks for the video and all your help
@@Izzabumminz for the ecu on 03-07 cummins 59's the listing is here keyworks.us/ramecu59.html if you have the early model 03 that still has the ecu and the pcm, I'd reccomend you send both. You can use the same listing and I will see which one is bad before making repairs. If you are sure its just the pcm on firewall (not typical) then the listing you can use is keyworks.us/engine-control-module-mail-in-repair-services/ram-truck-ecu-repair/ram-cummins-96-97-ecu-repair.html
@@ecurepair Thank you for replying! Well hear this out, my truck has 800hp/ with firepunk tuning for a manual valvebody, it used to be an auto shifting truck, it runs great, but doesnt communicate to pcm, and my truck drives around with prndl indicator stuck on park, I can only flash my ecm with a green and white wire on pcm disconnected, or the whole c connector unplugged. Do you think I’ll still need to send Ecm? One thing also that happened but is repaires now is when a transmissiom got swapped the wires got pinched and cut/def shorted to ground, harness has since been repaired
Bro you able to pull some pics from a Samsung galaxy s7 or s6 can't remember but it's in my safe it was a phone I had bought len for my ex girlfriend and it's got a bunch of baby pictures on they're from our daughter I've been trying to retrieve... there's also a couple minute video of several ufos I got over wanapum dam in wa state.... I can pay cash app or whatever and send phone off... I've saved this phone since like 2015...
