This is the makita 9401 belt sander. This particular one could be easily 20 years old.
These really are a machine that where man's to last a lifetime. and as you can see from the wear on the armature, they truly do.
There are not many tools that cam run for so long they wear through the com bar on an armature like this. and still keep on running.
A few bearings and brushes and this one is running again. admitting sounding a but rough, but still running and working.
The best this about this old Makita belt sander, is that they are still available to buy.
This exact tool is still sold today. and cost around 500 euro. But you really do get your money out of these machines.

That's her, Dean! I just fixed my grandfather's 9401. Couldn't have done it without your video. I ordered a couple of bearings to replace two that had seized. Ordered a bearing puller as well. Managed to press them on with a vice. Anyway, all of it was possible due to watching your videos. Really appreciate it!

best sander ever, mine is 50 years old and has only ever had bearings replaced once 20 years ago and I was a builder so has had plenty of use

I've got the Wolf version of this sander, identical as far as I can tell to the Makita. Great bit of kit but it's like going to the gym to actually use it. Rarely need to do such heavy work that it's required but shines when you do.

Best industrial sander ever. I sanded my whole house with a 9401, not even broken in. £150 secondhand, in excellent condition. Thanks for video.

good stuff nice to see a tool that has actually had its moneys worth pulled from it, i buy these types of tools off marketplace all the time for 20-60$ canadian in working order, theyre typically physically beat up but you can tell they dont have but a dozen hours use on them im sure youve done enough of the repairs to know the exact issues with each model, and a little sound narrows it right down, but might catch a larger audience if you run through the trouble shooting a bit, i would have pulled off the belt and gave it another run just to confirm it was in the motor and not the drums or belt i imagine comparison videos would grow the channel too, old vs new, this brand vs that, technical breakdowns what are the materials used where are the weak points, which is better designed ect

thanks for the tip. i plan to move into this type of content more then i get the time. At the minute im simply filming the repair process as i work. cannot spend extra time on a given machine as i have a lot of tools to repair. Need to invest in a computer and produce more dedicated professional videos at some point in the future and also start into comparison videos. But the comparison videos will require more funding for buying the tools to compare.

Between the chunky bearings, polycarbonate housing, and the proper steel nuts that hold the clamshell. Wow, guess they do make em like they used to

We reap the benefit of Makita not updating many of their corded planers and sanders.

@@robertrada4783which Makita planer would you recommend for being built to this standard? 🙏

@@NewWorldHoarder I use electric hand held planers just as much as I use wall chasers and given I live in America…never. However, I reckon anything 4-3/8” wide and larger. They’ve only updated the compact planers (and maybe those are good too?). Makita has A LOT of products they have not changed.

Hi Dean, thank you for a very insightful video. I am from South Africa and just bought a second-hand 9401 for a steal! I do however need some assistance. I see 2 types of bearings listed in the parts list (both 6200). the one being a 6200DDW and the second a 6200LLB. Do you have any idea what the difference might be? (I can only get "6200 - LLB C3" and "6200 - ZZ C3") I find no comparison online on these bearings...

I didn't realize combars or whatever they're called wore down. Must be from the brushes. I always figured the brushes were too soft to wear it down. Anything wears with enough time.

He's got other videos where he uses a press to remove armature bearings, you need a puller that is thin enough to get under them, two and three leg pullers are usually too chunky.
@ritchierennie8556
@ritchierennie8556 8 месяцев назад
@@Mark5mith He heats them and most just fall out or he uses his 3 leg puller after the heating.
