Than you for a super video, this helped me a great deal, as I have a DMR-EZ49V with the same VHS mechanism. I had to replace the mode switch (managed to get a Genuine Panasonic part). I used your invaluable tips on the alignment of the mode switch peg to drive slotted hole, to the indicator on the side of the cassette carriage. Powered up, put the tape in, motor drove it in and down but the two rollers did not take the tape around the head, spat the tape out? Like you i have taken it all apart several times, but now the tape motor drive refuses to take the tape in. Did you have a similar problem? If so ant tips on how can I overcome it Please ?
Hi, I have ex99v and ez49v, both with faults u81 appeared on the display sometimes when I try to record dvd discs. I replaced the laser pickups and swap the drives but problem still appears.I know its usually capacitors problems in other lower models ez45, ez48 etc. but here capacitors seems to be ok, Is it possible that capacitors need to be replaced even if don't look to be blown up? Kind Regards
Capacitors and changing them is what a lot of people recommend, sadly, it's not always the answer and often is unnecessary. I only change those that need to be changed, just the ones that show they are about to fail - they have a split in the top or have expanded or leaked. Usually only in the power supply section. Have you got a service manual? If you have, check the supply rails are within 10% of their stated values and if, you have a scope, little ripple on them. Changing the optical block often requires checking and adjusting the settings, including the laser power, so you'll need a laser power meter or a scope to check the eye pattern.
Another great video im getting back into electronics repair a little late in life as hey now 51 but have worked on brown goods and video recorders etc, for parts if you struggling try wiltsgrove electronics in birmingham they was always good/cheap for vcr/tv parts etc and soldering that post in was the best idea in my opinon it should last a while now not sure if you watch 12voltvids youtube channel i have learnt a lot from his videos.
Hi Vince, thanks for that. I was out of the Brown Goods repair trade for 20 odd years, having moved into Computers and Telecoms and have only recently started doing them again, several years after retirement and getting bored with Corona restrictions. Forgot how much I loved fault finding. Thanks for the tip on spares.
