Dear Ray, I am a newbie lamp worker (melting glass to make beads etc). Your video fixed my torch issue for me. The video was well done and although it took two attempts at disassembling and cleaning I am now back working the flame. Thanks so much for your video.
Just wanted to say great video. Only one on the web I could find with these type of nozzle for the torch. Sadly, it didnt work out well for me but I was able to attempt all the steps and felt like I gave it a great go.
Too bad it didn't work out for you, but at least you tried.. it's better to try and repair it before spending money if you dont have to.. thanks for watching, hope you subscribed.
I just cleaned mine as you've shown. The little valve seems to have been the problem - I sprayed some PB Blaster into it and with a small wire exercised the valve and spring. Cleaned and dried it out and it works like new.
Thanks Ray for an excellent tutorial. Every bit of the six minutes worth watching. Now I know how to proceed with several propane nozzles that are not up to par. Your voice and personality refreshing to hear. All the best from New Rochelle N.Y.
Thanks, Ray, it worked great for me. I was getting a soft flame not a torch flame so I disassembled the head and flushed out everything and noticed the screen on the front baffle was darkish. Flushed and blew it out and voila, torch flame again.
Hello. Thanks for that information now I can clean mine better. I do have one question. Mine had a striker button on it, it broke off. It the torch head still safe to use with out the stricker?
Thank you for the comment, and yes you could still use your torch with no problems if the striker is broken, or broken off. Just use it as if your using one without a built in peizo igniter.
Interesting watching the blue flame little bit of yellow sputtering every once in awhile just wondering if that's the trash in the propane since he just cleaned the nozzle?
Building a petrol jewelers torch so I don't have to deal with this anymore not the $10 bucks for the tank. Didn't want to miss any filters, great job! At 50 buck for my torch, it's worth spending some time. I will follow your steps + I have a sonic cleaner for jewelry that I will soak in for a while. I would also blast the filters with that break cleaner several times. Thanks for the tips, Sir.
I have two of them, but one has been kaput for years... so I looked it up. This should help repairing it, especially knowing more than one part can be clogged. As thanks, and for those who don't know, crocus cloth is an abrasive sheet similar to sand paper or emery cloth BUT covered with a layer of very fine loose iron oxide particles rather than with bound grains of abrasive. It is intended for final metal and gemstone finishing and is available in various grades (particle sizes) online or at hardware stores.
Is your bottle low, if not it’s still not really fixed the flame should be capable of being way bigger than that, think I’ll just buy a new head when mine goes out the valves do get leaky sometimes my last one started leaking on me
Naomi, Sometimes someone tightens them too tight and they do get stuck. Try to get it lose with a pair of pliers, turn counterclockwise to open the valve.. hope this will work for you..
I friend of mine gave me a torch head kinda like the one in your video (VTK 300 series) but it won't shut off after turning the knob all the way, is there anything I could do to fix it? Thank you, loved your video, also the only one where I found this kind of nozzle ✌️
Great video I don't think I've seen one even close to something like this. But it didn't answer the problem that I am wondering. So the little star thing that is at the tip of the nozzle that's in there a little bit that gives it the shape to the flame and whatnot without it it won't work. Because it just doesn't do it. But I'm wondering is it possible to say create one. I understand and nozzles are quite inexpensive I'm just curious if there's an easy way to quickly do something to it. I'm going to probably just going to get one tomorrow but still I'd like to know because this happens every now and again and it pisses me off
Yes, I'm sure you could make one but it would be trial and error.. I'd try it out of a penny or a piece of brass. Anything is possible if you put your mind too it..
MAP gas almost always does this to my torches. I hate using it for this reason and mostly stick to the propane to avoid this problem. But the other day, I needed a hotter flame, and after I got done sure enough, it's clogged again...
it just happened to me for the first time ever and I've used torches 100+ times. Ironically, it was fine till I switched to MAP (new sad excuse for MAP but you know, Ole Yeller).
Your question is eight months old, but I don’t see the answer for work. I could be here, but I’m not seeing it yet. So it’s the type of valve. There is another type of valve that you can get that will even work upside down, but the reason for which it says not to turn your torch and fuel cylinder upside down, they said it is only designed to work right side up. When you turn it upside down or sideways too much, it goes out. It’s just the design, Not your skills.
@@daphneraven6745 It was the bottle apparently. I ran out of gas in that bottle and bought another one and things work much better now with same valve/nozzle.
Sorry for the late reply, it is normal, because when you tip your bottle horizontal, you’re getting liquid propane to your torch and it will go out. I have found some bottles do this and some do not. Must be how they are designed internally.
I don't have a pressurized hose or brake cleaner but i will try disassembling the pieces and letting it soak in vinegar water for a few hours. Great video, easy to understand.
I took mine like that apart and I'm getting propane up to the turn valve but it's not going out any further. If I unscrew the torch from the bottle and then remove the turn valve gas escapes out. I'm at a loss whats wrong. I've boiled it and sanded the brass neck piece with what's supposed to have the microscopic office and still no flow.
Well my torch does not have the problem of not getting flame or a very weak flame. When I try to increase the fuel flow to get a bigger flame, it always blows out. I will try the procedure that you show in this video but I wonder if its the same problem. Anyway, any reply would be helpful. Thank you!
Hi, thanks for your comment. I'm not sure what's going on with your torch, but I am thinking that the metering valve may be wore out or has been over tightened. Overtightening distorts the valve, or jet so it can't meter the fuel properly then let's too much fuel in. Take out the fuel adjustment assembly and inspect it to see if that is the problem.
Thanks! Will do but it sounds like if the valve is distorted, then the torch is toast (no pun intended). If that is so, then its off to buy a third. Sort of doubt that Benzomatic will sell just the valve. Thanks for the reply.@@staffordshires2
Usually when that happens is due to a problem in the torch chamber head . Some torches tips have a flame spreader inside and they tend to get bent or pushed down and will mess up the fuel:air ratio . The bernzomatic torches usually are not made to be repaired due to greedy companies and they will crimp the flame spreader inside or do other stuff to the torch to make it hard if not impossible to repair. But if you know what to look for and know what youre doing then its a problem to be solved . . Get torches that have a removable torch head like a ace basic torch or something thats not fixed together from the factory and you ill be able to modify it and get swirl flame tips and ect
Hi everyone, does anyone knows what might be the cause of this? I got a propane torch and a 20 libs gas tank, I used for few times and it worked perfect, I tried again to use it and it has a very weak flame now. I tried with a 2 libs propane tank and it works perfect. The 20 libs propane tank worked in the beginning and it still nearly full tank, is not empty or anything like that.
Could be some impurity in the 20lb tank. I’d try turn the tank upside down, crack open the valve, and hopefully it will clear out the crap in the valve.
I had to remove quite a bit of brass to see any hole in the end. I have no idea how it got filled in unless somebody welded some brass onto the tip then polished it flat.
I have a bernzomatic brass tip WT 2201and I took the screen and other little thing out and now the flame is crooked and keeps going out can you help please
I've got one that worked on the original bottle but when I put it on a big camping Coleman tank It hisses loud and I can feel gas shooting out the tip very fast even if the valve is totally shut tight, what the heck is going on
Sounds to me that your control valve is not working properly, I'd take it apart and see if it has broken. Or some restriction stopping it from closing.
I have a torch that the end of the metal tube broke off(where the flame comes out the four metal connections broke) gas can be smelled when I turn the nob but I'm afraid to light it I'm not sure what the part did exactly.
That four metal connections, is a deflector.. I have never tried to take one out and light it, it isn't dangerous to light in that condition, just that your flame won't be as nice as with it in..
I'm glad I could help you with your torch, it costs money to throw away a good torch that isn't working properly, when in a few minutes a person can get it working again.. thanks for watching and commenting!
I have the Bernzomatic trigger torch handle on a hose. I tried to adapt your video to that model but no luck yet. It lights, but won't stay lit, and makes a loud whine. If I heat the nozzle with another torch it will stay lit. Do you know what makes the loud whine?
Hmmm I wonder if this will help my torch heads. They flow but one just puts out fire no blue flame n the other it gets a nice blue cone but there's just way to much orange flame in it
Update the one that worked seems to be working a lil better now. No more orange in the flame. The other one is hopeless. I think it just flows to much gas
"it just unscrews" how about you tell us what tool u used to get it to just screw... it would help alot the one thing i need and u just skip over it ha. Great help
Youre giving misleading information. That brand of tank ....yellow is mapp gas not propane. using a propane nozzle on mapp gas you run the risk of melting the tip. Plus the air ratio to gas with that nozzle is incorrect for mapp gas. Mapp gas for those who dont know is propane and butane combined. It burns hotter than either gas alone. Each gas has to have a certain air to gas ratio to properly burn. There are universal nozzles that allow you to change to the right air to gas ratio and its made with a metal alloy that can withstand the heat from all 3 tanks without melting or warping. When making an instructional video make sure youre giving proper information.
Looks like I have the same torch head mine jus stopped igniting after a day of owning it won’t ignite and when I try to ignite it with a lighter it won’t stay lit it has gas in the tank so I’m confused please hep
