Thank you, Jon. Your STORY is too often unheard today. I am an Australian Daoist and have lived in Wuhan, China for 17 years. Fortunately the Wudang Mountains are near Wuhan; Wudang Shan is the sacred home of the Dao. The Dao cannot be understood intellectually. It can only be understood intuitively. This is why so many Westerners have great trouble truly understanding it; for example, the "Tao Te Ching" (in Chinese it is the "Dao de Jing". One of the primary lessons of the Dao is virtually the same as yours - a return to nature. In Daoism it means understanding and going WITH nature, not against. The most beautiful elements in our world are 'of nature' - the only beautiful man-made elements in our world are in-line with nature; great art in all its forms. Laozi wrote: "the poet becomes the poem, the dancer becomes the dance" and so it is with all things. If we follow our intuition, as does nature, spontaneity follows; without thought, without judgement, without fear of others' judgement or our concern for reward. As an Australian I have long believed we have much to learn from our Aboriginal brothers and sisters, as you have learned from the Caligari people. They hold the ancient wisdom and are willing to share their knowledge with us. We are our only obstacle. We need to truly listen. I fear we have become a population of social media addicts, hearing only sound-bytes of information and calling that wisdom; choosing "LIKES" over substance, knowledge over wisdom. My favorite time of day is around 4:30 am when the birds wake-up and start talking to each other, in song. Wuhan is very cold in winter so they fly south and return in spring. Because of the COVID virus I feared they might not return. Imagine my joy several weeks ago when I awoke to hear them chattering :)
Connection with our internal and external environment without barriers, interpretation, judgment, defences and instead enjoy and celebrate our own innocence...
Thank you for a beautiful presentation. This pandemic is telling us that we need get out of the cities and live in the countryside, so that we can begin to heal our bodies and souls.
I always love talks like these where we are encouraged to become present, aware and in tune of nature then seeing with wonder and appreciating, loving its beauty. Finally, moving us towards consciousness that our nature needs us now more than ever it give it love backb take care of it and preserve it. 😊 It's like spirituality for me (also a topic i love). This is a peace-giving nature-loving talk. ❤
Enlightenment and awakening happens after bad stuff has happened to you ..like a rebirth ..you can't believe that your still in one piece you know ... I'm conscious from being in a coma for a long time I'm asleep in a deep sleep but I'm conscious ...and the fact I'm conscious is at least better than nothing I might be blind and asleep I m brain damaged I'm not in a good way but at least I'm conscious ...I'm kinda still here you know ...at least that's something to be thankful for you know ..
Yeah. For some we can do some balancing. And when our love & wonder for nature exceeds the attention on tech we have then we can use our tech to open other's eyes too and open doors for nature
Precisely, well said. The technocratic/transhumanist damp dream we see now is not our future, ditch the 'smart' phone, get a landline, reconnect with people, reconnect with nature. People are social creatures and need one another as much as they nature and they know it. Thanks!
What prevents this all-or-nothing fallacy being used to stand as an excuse? Jon rarely or perhaps never claims that technology is a problem. This is so, whether you take technology in the narrowest sense you may have intended (web-based electronic devices) or much more broadly (to include such technologies as greeting customs, wide-angle vision, or forgiveness). I happen to be dirt poor (or dirt rich, depending on how highly we assess the value of my multiple compost piles and the extraordinary resilience of my microbiome) and living far away from Jon, so I'm very grateful that he shares so much technology from various indigenous legacies with us via technology from the industrial world. And in another talk he points out that the Bushmen love Jackie Chan movies... Digest that one.
What happens when there's nobody in the group capable of catching a particular attendee's story? Have you encountered anything like that either as the one whose story wasn't honoured or as one of the listeners who failed to honour someone's sharing?
My hobby and passion is photographing wildlife. I'm in the woods by sunrise and will sit in the same spot for hours quietly and without moving. The things I have seen are amazing and priceless. I can greatly relate to everything he is saying.
Beautiful and original speech.. never heard sb who could explain it like that PD: Nice and clear pronunciation (I speak Spanish and I understood perfectly)

@@Arshdeep9929_ Jon Young is one of the best story tellers I know. Check out a talk on youtube called 'Earth Talk Jon Young' and you will be surprised.
This is a top-tier piece. A book with similar attributes became a cornerstone in my life. "The Art of Meaningful Relationships in the 21st Century" by Leo Flint
I've been away from my real parents for thirty eight years in returning home as a blinded hostage victim taken away from home by strangers ..but I love my parents I can't wait to return home to them in lucky to be alive trying to keep my patience with people believe me I've bitten my tongue so many times im surprised it's still in one piece ...anyway the things you learn from a bad experience ...beaten and attacked and assaulted by men I could not recognise awful This is 38 years of my world I will never forget a story so shocking so far out that the odds of my survival would not have been great ...the very fact that I'm alive is amazing ...thank God ...I have to tell some one my story I guess some folk don't realise what I've been going through ...right now I'm suffering in conscious from a coma and living through a nightmare of all that endured the shock of it all is something I can't begin to describe ...it's like being in shock all of the time ..I have to tell someone what happened to me ...I have to because otherwise I won't have closure ..
Laura, if you find grief-healing processes that work for you, you'll have found what all of us also need. Over and over in his talks, Jon speaks of how the biggest challenges to nature connection are in the area of fear and trauma; the levels of fear and trauma that ordinary life leaves us with may not be as extreme as what you experience, but it's big enough to keep us from connecting to nature, and we all need to heal.
Do you know who else suggested good hygiene and quarantining during a pandemic? Muhammad, the prophet of Islam, over 1,300 years ago. While he is by no means a "traditional" expert on matters of deadly diseases, Muhammad nonetheless had sound advice to prevent and combat a development like COVID-19. Muhammad said: "If you hear of an outbreak of plague in a land, do not enter it; but if the plague outbreaks out in a place while you are in it, do not leave that place." He also said: "Those with contagious diseases should be kept away from those who are healthy." Muhammad also strongly encouraged human beings to adhere to hygienic practices that would keep people safe from infection. Consider the following hadiths, or sayings of Prophet Muhammad:
That is wise advice. This originated in the times of the New Testament/Torah. Humans were not aware of things like germs, bacteria and viruses, so God's very specific instructions for his people were to keep them healthy and safe and prevent outbreaks of contagious diseases, bacteria, contamination of food etc. that they knew little to nothing about. Wise people then passed on this information throughout the ages. Unfortunately, I don't think most people were educated in it or practiced it enough throughout later history or there would have been a lot less health problems, plagues and death! Ancient wisdom should never go out of style!
I've been a hostage victim for the past eight years emotional isolation is devastating no contact from anyone except your captor the person that holds you hostage it's the worst experience ever emotional isolation does arrange things to a person I've experienced kidnap and abduction as well as being kept hostage I think of it as that those experiences aren't my fault it's down to the mindset of others that choose to take it hold other people's family ill people troubled people it's very very sad and frightening in monohydrate to my release ...as a princess which I am in a royal princess that ended up as a blind hostage held and assaulted and and hostages by people I couldn't recognise awful experience..wouldn't wish what happened to me to happen to anyone else
