A very helpful tip. I've been there many times but didnt know how to fix it. With this video, I fixed a lit of my planes and was able to fly them. Thanks james for the awesome quick tip!

I've got in the habit of applying hinge tape during the build. Just for the added protection of breaking apart prematurely.. or while in flight. Whenever one does break loose, I'll shave both edges flat and install the nylon hinges. So far this has worked for me.

I have cleaned and shaved the surface and used CA hinge! It will make a clean tight fit.

When using Hinge Tape, always remember to fully deflect the control surface on the opposite side of the tape when applying. Otherwise, you will get more surface travel on one side (ie. More down than up). Also make sure you get it stuck very well at the hinge line of the control surface, so the control surface does move or separate from the stabilizer, wing or rudder during flight.

Thank you James. I used plastic hinges once and so far so good.

Thanks for the video. I broke off my verticle stabilizer control surface on my t28 trojan 1.2 and ordered some of that foam tac glue!

Seriously thank you for this. I've had this happen, tried glue but it just didn't seem to work for me. I'll try the hinges next time. Seems more secure and easier and def less messy

Once I get to this point, I take the time to actually drill holes and glue a pinned hinge. I've never had to fix one a second time. Sometimes I just install pinned hinges while assembling the plane initially so I never have to worry.

I prefer the cloth (fiberglass) hinges on foam. BUT, i stick by the rule: anything 1200mm or less, cloth. 1300mm up, hinged hinges. Usually, on everything 3d, i use the cloth. TOO, on BOTH foam surfaces, u wanna clean up/straighten both control surface edges. Take a razor blade/xacto & smooth both surfaces. I have had MY hinges pull apart foam on planes when the plane is completely destroyed. 👍😁

I use both glue and tape just to be sure. :) As I'm in EU I use Uhu Por instead of Foamtech.

Glue makes it too stiff and servo overworks itself. I cut up a gallon of milk and used 2 tiny square pieces and taped them side by side. The gap creates a hinge that uses 2 layers of tape, I make a cut on the moving surface and the part it connects to insert both squares inside and you have the gap perfectly in between creating a hinge. it makes a perfect and very strong hinge

I tend to prefer glue... usually makes a pretty decent repair, even concealing most of the rip.
