I have a future beach freedom I got off craigslist the other day, and notices that the bottom of the boat was popped out, the kayak has a dihedral hull, and there was points that were bulged out , if I do this will it go to its original shape, when I am reshaping it inwardly rather than outwardly?

It should pop back properly. They retain memory.

Putting a polyethylene kayak put in the sun, to remove oil-canning is not a genius idea. UV will degrade the material, and using this method will shorten the lifespan of the kayak (Hence why it's a good idea to store them indoors.) On a Sit in Kayak. Use a heat gun and simply push out the dent. On a sit ontop, use a heat gun and put a schrader valve onto the boats drain hole. (this may require some engineering on your part.) Use a bicycle pump to pressurize the boat and slowly hat the affected area (don't over heat.) and simply pop the dent out.

Craig, the sun option only requires placing the boat in the sun long enough to hear it up enough for the dent to pop out. This is a great option for those without s heat gun.

@@fishyaker since a heat gun is under $20 why advise people to do things that will ultimately shorten their lifespan of the boat?

Craig, I know lots of people who would probably melt a hole in their kayaks with a heat gun too. The time in the sun is very minimal, like an hour during the summer, far less than even a short on-the-water outing. It’s an option... 😊
