Repairing the Ensoniq ESQ1. ( Loving it...) 

I just replaced the top panel on my plastic ESQ-1. Found it on Reverb for $30! Someone had sat on the old one before i bought it (or something!) because it was sunken down and a bunch of the plastic standoffs had broken. I had things all glued back together and looked like a wreck with the buttons barely functioning, but it worked. Now it looks all sorted! At least until i get display issues like you. On paper the ESQ-1 really doesn't seem that special, but it can make a huge variety of sounds. I finally got an expression pedal for it and thats been a fun add-on.

0:28 - This was made back in the days when a synthesizer and a sampler were two completely different things. The Mirage was Ensoniq's first sampler and the ESQ-1 was their first synthesizer.

Hey would you happen to know where the display driver is located on the ASR 10 and the SD 1? The display on my ASR 10 has a couple spots that aren’t lighting up and one spot that flickers and eventually lights up and on my SD 1 there’s four different spots that have just a piece that doesn’t light up on the bottom row. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks

Dumb question: I just replaced the battery in my ESQ1 and this is the first time I had an issue. The screen is blank when I turned it back on. I've never had this happen before. Any ideas?

Good stuff! New problem with my 1990 SQ1, turns on clean, first sound comes up fine, then 5 seconds later horrible screeching, with different screeching when keys are played. Swapped a power supply, but same problem. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Nathan, I own a ESQ-1 I purchased it back in 1988 (if memory serves me) the pitch wheel spring is broken and few keys don't work. Based on your knowledge, are any of these issues repairable with out buying parts. I'm wondering if I should take it apart and troubleshoot it.
