The chapter titled "Repairing the Theory of Servant Leadership" appeared in the newly published textbook The Palgrave Handbook of Servant Leadership (2023). The presentation covered the current state of servant leadership theory (SLT) and its dark side. As charismatic leadership theory reveals the dark sides of charismatic appeal, this chapter reveals a latent aspect of SLT rooted in a pluralism of interpretations of Christ's famous saying. The intersections where theology and servant leadership meet influence how one perceives actual servanthood. One's Christ-image greatly influences how one determines what serving looks like in external reality. The degree of influence that denominational bias has on one's image of serving determines how that leader will treat others in several dimensions of organizational life. A careful look at Putin's leadership behavior represents an area for research in Russian Orthodox Christianity in order to determine how SLT can be studied from philosophical, psychological, anthropological, sociological, organizational, and theological perspectives.
