Locomotive builders in Britain have supplied steam locos to all over the world. We take a look at some of the locomotives which were built in the UK, worked abroad and have been preserved back in the United Kingdom.
Darjeeling No. 19 - Operated on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, India. Moved to the USA in the 1960s. Repatriated to the UK in 2003.
WD 79257 - Operated in Holland NS4464 & Sweden SJ1931. Repatriated to the UK in 1973 now on the KWVR as BR 90733.
WD 3652 - Operated in the Middle East and Greece as 951. Repatriated to the UK in 1984. Operates on the North Norfolk Railway as BR 90775 The Royal Norfolk Regiment.
WD 70348 - Operated as TCCD 45160 in Turkey until 1983. Repatriated in 1989. Currently carries LMS livery as 8F 8274.
WD 75105 - Operated in France and Holland. Repatriated to the UK in 1988. Based at the Ribble Steam Railway as Walkden.
WDLR303 - Operated in France during WWI, before moving to Australia working at Sugar Mills in Bundaberg and Invicta. Based at the Apedale Valley Light Railway
Joffre 2045 & 3014 - Operated in France, Repatriated to the UK in 1974
WDLR 1238 - Operated at Ashanti Goldfield Corp. Repatriated to the UK in 2008.
K1 Garratt - Operated on Tasmanian Govt. Railway. Repatriated to the UK in 1947
NGG16 138 & 143 - Operated on South African Railway. Repatriated to the UK in 1997. Part of the last batch of Beyer Peacock built steam locomotives.
SLR 14 - Operated in Sierra Leone. Repatriated to the UK in 1975, based at the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway.
SAR 7A 994 - Operated in South Africa. Repatriated to the UK in 1975.
GWR 4073 Pendennis Castle - Preserved in Australia from 1977. Repatriated to the UK in 2000
LNER 4472 Flying Scotsman - Visited USA 1969 - 1973 and Australia 1988/89
LMS Duchess of Hamilton - Visited USA as Coronation in 1939-42
LMS Royal Scot - Visited USA in 1933
SR Schools V class 926 Repton - Preserved at Steamtown USA in 1967, with long term working visit to Cape Breton Railway in Canada. Repatriated to the UK in 1989
LSWR M7 30053 - Preserved at Steamtown USA in 1967. Repatriated to the UK in 1987
Trangkil No. 4 - Britain's last steam locomotive built for industrial use. Operated at Trangkil Sugar Mil, Java. Repatriated to the UK in 2004, based at Statfold Barn Railway.
Edward Sholto - Exported to Canada in 1961. Repatriated to the UK in 2006.
Winifred - Exported to America. Repatriated to the UK in 2012.
King of the Scarlets - Exported to Canada. Repatriated to the UK in 2013.
Michael - Exported to Canada in 1965. Repatriated to the UK in 2012.
Gertrude - Exported to Canada. Repatriated to the UK in 2017.
Chaka's Kraal No. 6 - Operated at Chaka's Kraal Sugar Estates, Natal. Repatriated to the UK in 1981.
Marchlyn - Exported to USA in 1965. Repatriated to the UK in 2011.
Joan - Operated in Antigua. Repatriated to the UK and operates on the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway
CSR No. 19 - Operated at Lautoka Sugar Mill, Fiji
Alpha - Operated at Ryam Sugar, Bihar.
Isibutu - Operated at Tongaat Sugar, Natal
Saccharine - Operated in South Africa
Fiji - Operated at Lautoka Sugar Mill, Fiji. Repatriated to the UK in 2011
Plus a bonus at the end. Burton and Ashby Light Railway Tramcar 14 at the Statfold Barn Railway.
