This video shows how to replace the hood release cable to a 2005 Toyota Corolla. It will also work for other Toyota Corolla model years.
In many cases, the cable becomes worn or weathered and no longer moves easily. This results in the hood release getting stuck, which prevents the hood from latching properly.
This process was done in less than 1 hour.
The video is best viewed on a computer screen.

Very straightforward and to the point. Unlike many other videos with excess talking of nonsense. Great job! It's appreciated sir 👍🏼

Having to do this on my 03 Camry. Setup looks similar so it should go smooth. Like the idea of attaching a wire to pull it back thru so no need to manually snake it thru

Great video,very informative,I coated old cable with dish soap so as I removed old cable some lube helped.I also lubed new cable with dish soap.with wire for pulling it was a breeze.

This looks very similar to my Prius handle. I simple need to replace the handle. Cable is still good. How far does the cable need to be pushed into the handle so it won’t keep the hood open?
@tomscorner9420
@tomscorner9420 5 лет назад
Not very much. I am guessing it is about 1.5 inches.

@@tomscorner9420 Thank you, I think I have something else going on. I had to pull the wire out in order to hook it up to the handle, and now the hood won't shut. I think I have some sort of tension issue in the hood. I'm going to have my body shop take a look at it.
@koreyg5279
@koreyg5279 4 года назад
@@AdamFloro I have the same issue in my '01 Camry. Hood won't stay close. It's a tension issue that I've gone through THREE hood latches and one cable trying to fix. I am buying a used, OEM, cable and latch assembly from eBay as that should fix the problem. Trying to fix the problem with two, new, aftermarket parts actually made the problem worse than better.
@AdamFloro
@AdamFloro 4 года назад
@@koreyg5279 Well I found out my issue was the radiator support was out of line. Wound up trading it in anyway.
@bikemannc

@@AdamFloro If you're still wondering why it didn't allow the hood to relatch or completely shut it it's one of three things..* cable ; you've already replaced this. * lacking lubrication..spray the latch assembly throughly with silicone spray lube or maybe wd-40. * Latch assembly is worn out ..replace this too. My hood continually wouldn't completely latch. But following Tom's video (and two others ) it does now.

Will this work on a 1995 Corolla without having to remove the wheel well?
@tomscorner9420
@tomscorner9420 7 лет назад
The process will work. However, I do not know the structural details of a 1995 version so I do not know whether you will need to remove the wheel well.

And the reason why you replaced the cable is?
@tomscorner9420
@tomscorner9420 5 лет назад
It was sticking. When we released the hood, the release handle would not return to it's normal position.

We had previously removed the latch, cleaned it, and found that it was working fine. After that, the cable was still not releasing easily.

Hi Tom, I appreciate your prompt reply, thank you! I figure it out and it is the cable not releasing properly, thank for saving me time and money.

@tomscorner9420 5 лет назад
@@mcleodiodossantos1311 Uh Oh. Are you able to see the latch mechanism towards the front of the hood? If so, you may be able to use a screwdriver to pull the latch open.
