Only band with the balls to perpetually self destruct for their own entertainment, while singing you drunken lullabies that'll make you cry. Best band ever.
Love when Bob appears and Paul says, who do we have here. Also the reference to Baron Von Rashke from the AWA wrestling days "all the people need to know", if you grew up in the midwest in the 80's you would recognize that.
My band opened up for them around this time and they were the "Drunkest" people I've ever met,and that's saying something!!The Famous "City Gardens" in Trenton,N.J.!!Those were the days!!!!!
The Replacements shows at the old Ritz were some of my favorite shows... I remember one show where Paul and Bob were sitting on the floor in front of the sound booth while the crowd was just starting to come in... you didn't get that from any other band... they never seemed to put on any act. I was talking to Paul one night about trying to get them to come play in my town. (lol) (Paul always was asking for cigarettes! More Cigarettes!
This is from Real George's Backroom, a cable-access show in Albany, NY. It was essential to bringing both the local music scene and touring musicians into the area's living rooms.
I love that they quoted Baron Von Rashke. Dat is all da people need to know! They must've been AWA fans since they're Minnesota boys, doing the wrestler look!
If anyone doesn't know Paul's remark on "Calvin Griffith moved," Paul is a big Minnesota Twins fan, and Griffith owned the team from 1961-1984. He moved, meaning he sold the team in 1984
Was gonna say this.. I wonder if it was the inspiration for the title of "The Resterberg".. nah who am I kidding, he was so drunk he doesn't remember this night!
I think he said: "Tickler's real good" after mentioning a band named Tickler. I don't know if that's a joke, though. My apologies if there is a band called Tickler...I bet they're real good, if so! :)
So many quotable lines. The entrance of Bob. Then the Claw by all three of 'em. Where & when did Tommy go? Someone spills a drink & the reaction from Bob, then a "whoops!" Sabbath in the background & finally in a drawn-out, kinda dickish Minneapolis accent "That was when Calvin Griffith moved, eh?"
