Replacing a locked Mercedes seat belt mechanism DIY

In today's episode we are removing and reinstalling the locked seat belt mechanism in the 2006 Mercedes SLK55 AMG. The car took a little off shoulder ride and the pyro fuse in the seat belt blew and locked the belt.
We remove the belt, send it off to Safety Restore, and then reinstall the repaired mechanism. This turned out to be a relatively straightforward process and could be accomplished with some time, patience, and a few basic tools. The one thing you will need is to have the SRS system reset after this repair. The reset can be done by many body shops or the dealer but it has to be completed before the car is safe again.

Really great video! - Even the additional info about how you suspect that you seatbelt got locked. I was concerned about my daughter's rear seat belt and if we'll be able to clear that code after we removed it and got it unstuck and re-installed it. - We do no have the same Mercedes, however, this was still beneficial. -- OH! and those freaking tight spaces! I have little hands ( child size) and I have no idea how you were able to get your hand in there to get the bolts back in. I had to rig my bold onto my ratchet with a wire to hold it long enough for the bolt to grip the female screw side. - Although, since it is a different model I am sure that could have made a difference! --- Okay ... so here is my "nit-picky" side. Your speech patter and volume and even the timber of your voice was pleasant to listen to. I struggle some times to listen to others' videos. I never mention this because people have the voices they have, but it was a PLEASURE to get instructions from you. Thank you for taking the time to make this video for the public!

Thank you so much for the kind words! Sometimes if I have a nut or bolt that gives me fits I'll use a small piece of double sided tape in the socket to help hold it where I need it to be. Most local body shops have the computer to reset the codes, I'm sure one would do it for you for a very reasonable price if not even for free. The customer service aspect keeps them on your radar in the event you need their services down the road.
