Replacing a torn American flag.

There are many issues that can come with flying a flag, such as a flag wearing and tearing from everyday use. I replaced the 4x6foot flag with a 3x5foot gold fringe flag in the meantime. No matter how tough a flag is, it will eventually begin to tear, that is the life of a flag. Some tougher flags can last over a year or two, as mine has, while other lighter flags can begin to tear after the first time you fly it, all depends on the wind speeds. On a side note, I would never throw it in the trash if it’s torn behind repair, I would save the worn flag, set it aside and wait until November 11th to burn the flag in a respectful and ceremonial way. God bless you and America! 🇺🇸

even on printed flags, they always seem to separate at the stripes. you seem to have a cheaper flag, so i recommend you buy a valley forge flag. ive had mine for five years and no tears yet

It was an Annin brand, great quality and was an outdoor all weather flag, I just used to live next to the river/delta area where it very windy and it wore out any flag twice as fast.

The gold tassel flag is not meant for outdoor use, FYI.

I know now, the flag didn’t last more than 2 months outdoors. I recently replaced the flag with an outdoor use flag without gold tassels. The new flag should last a lot longer and not shred as easy.

@@Missle1001 make sure you buy flags that are FMAA Certified and you will have no problems with them lasting. Two ply poly will last the longest, but it’ll be pretty heavy for that pole.

@@davejoyal9286 Yep, I made sure my new 5x8foot flag can survive outdoors, and yes my pole is very light and sways in the wind, I even have to take down the flagpole when it gets too windy, my last flag pole ended up bending and falling down due to too much wind, last thing I need is having to replace the neighbors windows or broken items. Hopefully one day I can install a stronger pole.

If the flag is from top to bottom, then the square with stars must be in the upper left corner?

This usually happens when they have chain stitches. A lock stitched flag will typically not tear this way. To get lock stitches you have to order them. Can’t find them at Walmart. Your flag was a chain stitched flag.
