This video shows step-by-step procedure of replacing a defective coil in the VX42E quartz watch movement by S. Epson/Seiko. This procedure could be also used to replace an electronics board in this type of movement.

Hi, May I kindly ask, Where can I buy coils for Epson movements? What size watch loupe do you usually use? About testing the coil without completely removing it from the movement, where do you place each probe positive and negative to measure the resistance? Thanks

Hi Attiqur! You need to search a coil by exact movement model. I'd search on eBay, Aliexpress or on Google overall. I usually use a 4X loupe, sometimes 5X or 45X stereo microscope. To measure the coil resistance it doesn't matter what polarity to apply. Just connect two probes to the gold contacts on the coil. Be careful though to not damage a very thin coil wires when connect probes. Good luck!

@@obgow1 Hi Brendan! Any DVM or analog tester that can measure resistance could be used. Good coil should have resistance in a range of 1-3 KOhm.

I do not throw away defective watches and some of them sometimes have good parts, such as coils.

Great video! What do you think of the Seiko VJ32 movements? Are they any good, and durable? How long can they last?

Thank you! Honestly, I do not like VJ32. They often have issues and do not run well, at least in my experience with a number of watches, based on this movement. I like other Seiko movements though, for example VX and VD series. They are pretty reliable and can last for years.

I usually use coils from otherwise defective movements that I have collected. If not, I use eBay, Aliexpress or specialized companies like Esslinger, All watch parts, etc to locate the part. If cannot find coil, then the whole movement could be found at Aliexpress for about $5. Good luck?

1 is a fossil BQ-9186 Chronograph the other is a fossil AM-3997

I checked on the BQ-9186 movement and can confirm that it is a Hattori VX3J model.

I usually use good coils from otherwise defective movements. Coils are not always easy to find on the market, but tey looking at eBay or even internationally. You can also obtain a whole movement and replace it as a whole, or just take out the coil. Good luck!

I do not know what exactly movement is in your watch. You can open the case back and see the model of the movement written on it. By looking at the watch I can guess there is a VX3J movement, but please confirm before buying the coil.
