When you slowly apply voltage to an old circuit like this, how long do you take to do it in order to be safe and not damage anything?

Nice repair of the three transformers, that's really odd that the primaries of the transformers opened up. What would cause this to happen?

I have my grandmothers Western Auto radio that has a very similar chassis. I had it fixed after I got it from her 40 some odd years ago, after we moved one time after about 5 years it quit working. Could you help me fix this unit or fix it for me? I'm a computer programmer and do some arduino hobby work, but I'm not sure I'm up for this project. I do have a Rigol scope but wouldn't know where to start on the radio. I'd love to discuss this with you. I've been thinking about getting a bluetooth unit to put in the unit to fake using it, but I'd really love to have it working again.
