In this video, I'm replacing spark plugs and coils on a VW Jetta 2.5L. Included are some tips and ways to do this job a bit easier.
USER WATCHING VIDEO ASSUMES ALL RISKS INVOLVED IN REPAIR ONES OWN VEHICLE. THIS VIDEO IS FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY.
NOTE: I PREVIOUSLY GAPPED THE SPARK PLUGS BUT DID NOT INCLUDE IT IN THE VIDEO. MOST SPARK PLUGS ARE GAPPED RATHER CLOSE IN BOX, UNLESS THEY HAVE BEEN DROPPED OR DAMAGED.

I bought everything I needed to fix the coils and spark plugs. I did it and then went to the dealership to have them reset the codes, they said I did a spectacular job all codes cleared and I drove away feeling empowered. Thank you for the video, it was explicit and helpful.

I just finished doing a tuneup on my VW Jetta mk5. It was easier than I thought. $250 at dealer but did it myself and got job satisfaction. You need large slip joint pliers (not the fancy long reach ones) a 3/8 analog torque wrench (not the digital short range one) Bosch plugs (3 times cheaper than the dealer ones) t20 hex bit, dialectic grease, flat head screwdriver. Put grease on engine cover posts and inside ignition coils. Use the flat head screwdriver to gently twist tab on coil until you hear click then gently pull by hand connector on each of the five coils. Use a short zip tie and loop it around head of coil and pull each one. Use torque wrench 21 ft lbs or 252 inch pounds to torque the spark plugs using a deep 3/8 inch socket with a magnet built in it. Then push the connector into the coil until you hear an audible click. Then align into groove and push coil with your thumb finger until you hear thump. I practiced at a salvage yard before doing it in my own car. Easier than I expected. Now my car run smoothly.

good video, lots of detail, i know these are tough to make to satisfy everyone. People with varying degrees of knowledge will view it differently. Experienced viewers. will complain of too much detail, less experienced will complain of leaving details out.I know that youtube videos have saved me hundreds of dollars on repairs that I don't have to pay someone else to do.Thanks for taking the time.

excellent video! Very good pre and post production. thank you for the excellent commentary and audio WITHOUT MUSIC! Going through the necessary tools and shop supplies was great. All the little tricks like connectors, sequence of operations, silicone grease to grommets were perfect, and the cautions were great. Over all a real pro job! My only suggestion/ request would be when dealing with small items like the VAG style connectors an additional close-up shot with brighter lighting, spliced in in slow-mo, would be helpful to newbies to understand how those things work.

Thanks for making this video. I currently own a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, but I've always been interested in owning a VW. Before I watched your video I watched a video of someone changing the spark plugs and coils on a 2012 Chevrolet Cruz. The job was so easy and I was discouraged about owning a VW. I thought, "I'll probably have to take the whole engine apart to change the spark plugs and coils on a 2.5 VW." Your video shows me this is not the case and gives me a lot of reassurance about owning a VW. Thanks.

If you use NGK plugs, they already have a factory coating of proprietary anti-seize on the threads. NGK does NOT recommend using anti-seize on their threads. Also, dielectric grease is insulating and should only be applied to rubber or plastic sealing surfaces and NOT to any metal connecting parts. Yes, it should be used for moisture-proofing but it should not be used between metals where current travels. It also makes inserting or removing the coil boots easier. There is also a special high-temperature dielectric grease available. A little bit goes a very long ways. Just apply a thin film with your finger tips.

Thanks I enjoyed watching the video and helped me do my Golf 2013 which is similar in engine style which is 2.5 engine also. I have a little difficulty in removing the coil for a while and a little pry loosens its grip from the spark plug. I guess a little trick on those wire harness, lift the wire and a lever lift and push it out with a flat screw driver and that will come out, hard but I did it. Thanks again, my mechanic said I can do it, just watch the RU-vid.

@@mathewhoran2684 Bosch has tried many times to reinvent the spark plug field. They are famous for using multiple electrodes. In doing so that allows spots for build up from the combustion process. Eventually fauling the plugs out prematurely. In hindsight I should have stated to use only the traditional single electrode regardless of manufacturer of plug. Bosch makes them but most choose the multiple electrode one without knowing. It's the "more is better" thought but not with this one.

@honzikzemanu7915
@honzikzemanu7915 5 лет назад
you applied the Dielectric Grease way incorrectly! dont forget that Dielectric Grease is an insulator, so you should AVOID applying it directly on connectors and any metal parts in general. its to be applied on rubber (inside the boot but without touching any metal connectors). you can always apply it very slightly on the outside of the spark plugs (the ceramic portion), but again avoiding any metal part. The way you applied it directly to connectors means, you actually created a barrier/insulator that will make it harder on the connectors to function properly! its going to increase resistance and overheating the wires or lead to misfiring...

Doesn't matter. The only plugs you should ever be worried about are the 2 piece Ford Triton motor spark plugs.

Cannot find any video that explains how to get the rubber insulation off the spark plug when it breaks off as you're pulling the coil pack up. The rubber inside the coil pack leg, tore, and is stuck on the plugs. They won't go back on now, and #1 not at all, and that one is misfiring. I know I need new coils now that they broke, but I cannot find anything on how to remove the broken piece stuck to the plugs.

Long needle nose pliers or a hooked style pick might do the trick. You have to replace them anyway now so damage is not an issue.

Thank you for this video! One question... it appears you unscrewed the spsrk plugs before you removed them but only dropped in the new ones without screwing them in-did i miss something? 17:28

Broke the tang thing on the connector.. Should I replace the whole thing or zip tie it?

Zip tie would be my immediate suggestion. Unless you're familiar with de pinning connectors to replace it.

Hey Y’all, so I’m trying to find coils and plugs for my 2015 VW Passat 1.8L SE... I’ve literally been searching for two days now with no results. I want to try any kits that I can order. I’m fully aware that I can get OEM... but those are $38 a pop... bs. Any help would be much appreciated!

check out FCP Euro. I have a VW and Volvo and the prices are great and you get OEM at very reasonable prices.

any thoughts on a 2012 VW Jetta SE that drives fine, BUT has stalled when slowing down and when sitting at a light itermittently over the past 2 months maybe 5 times total with daily driving. Also when turning over it cranks fine, but recently same time as it began stalling it may take 2 turns of the key to start her up. this has happened 3 or so times over 2 months as well. I thought maybe fuel pump or relay, but no dash lights come on or error code. 2 mechanics so far have told me they dont know where to look. I was planning on having air filter replaced, and maybe relay then fuel pump if still acting up. Had a tune up 1 year ago, plugs and coils replaced at that time..any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

What engine is in it? And is it manual or automatic trans?
@user-su9nf6qw2r
@user-su9nf6qw2r 10 месяцев назад
@@SkyhookStudios it is an automatic, with the option to switch gears manually, if shift is moved to the right you can shift up or down, not a real manual drive
