Replacing Diesel Injectors on my VW Transporter T4 2.5tdi AJT/ACV | Fix start issues & more power!

Our VW T4 Transporter with the 2.5tdi AJT/ACV 5 cylinder diesel engine developed slow starting issues over time. Although it ran fine when started, it took a lot of cranks of the engine to fire up and produced a fair amount of smoke while cold.
In this video I show how I changed the original Stanadyne diesel injectors for the Bosch injectors used on the ACV version of this AJT/ACV engine.
After the swap the engine ran beautifully and starts immediately - even without any ECU tweaks.
I recommend you use penetrating fluid and a diesel injector removal tool, which is like a small slide hammer.

Hi, thanks for posting a great video. I have T4 ajt 2.5tdi with stanadyne injectors (200K miles). It was remapped years ago by TH performance and runs really well with plenty of power, i also added a VW intercooler. In the last year the van blows a lot of white smoke on start up, I think it's time to change the injectors, do you have a link to the bay seller where you got your reconditioned bosch ones, also is there a reason why you didn't buy the Project Power PP0.5 injectors that always get great feedback on T4 forums. thanks

Thanks for the great feedback. Sounds like your injectors are doing the same as mine did. I bought the refurbished injectors from a guy on Ebay (link: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/384567842847). The only reasons I didn't go for the PP0.5 was cost and I hoped that by using the Bosch ones I wouldn't need a map again.

No, the van was smooth and had no more smoke on start up with the injector change.

I have a whit smoke in cold start? Maybe it can be the injector? Have you a code for the tools to extract injector? Thanks

If you have old Stanadyne injectors in an AJT, then probably yes. This is the tool I used to extract the injectors: amzn.to/48sFiQz

What cost were the injectors please?, and why did you change the position of the wired one ? Cheers 👍

I paid about €250 for the refurb Bosch injectors. On the 102 engine variant the longer injector is in the 5th cylinder (it doesn't need to be) and that fuel line is also the longest - so it made it easier to fit in that place with minimum bending of the fuel line.

Not on the injector change in our instance. The map was done before and only needed tweaking. We could've pushed for more power but I wanted better mpg and no smoke.
