Yukimi-shoji is a traditional Japanese sliding door.
Yukimi-shoji is a type of shoji in which the lower half of the shoji moves up and down.
Yukimi means to see the snow in Japanese.
On a cold snowy day, you can raise the shoji up to see how much snow is on the ground.
Why don't I just open the shoji and check?
This is because when you open the shoji, the cold air from outside comes into the room.
There is glass in the room to prevent cold air from coming into the room when the shoji is raised.
In Japan, shoji screens are used as they are, with only the paper being replaced.
In this video, the broken glass is also replaced.
Please watch to the end of this article on paper replacement for Yukimi shoji screens.
Thank you

In Japan, special paper is commonly sold for affixing to shoji screens. Shoji paper is softer than ordinary, standard paper.
