It seemed like it took forever, but the deck is finally done. Now it is time to install the new transom! I honestly thought about leaving the old one intact. At the time it seemed very sound, but I am glad I decided to go ahead with a new one. There was some rot around the kicker motor. It would honestly have drove me crazy. Knowing I spent so much time and money to not do a full rebuild.
I really went back and forth on if I should use the marine plywood I had, or buy Coosa Board. My determining factors were cost and availability. With suppliers cost skyrocketing due to COVID. It was going to set me back a few hundred dollars. If not more. I looked around quite a few places in my area with no luck. I would have had to make a trip or pay for shipping. Therefore I decided to go with what I had. As long as I make sure I seal everything very well. It should last a very long time. The transom I took out was over 30 years old.
This was my first time replacing an entire transom. There were a lot of things I had to do a lot of research on. The last thing I wanted to do was have the motor fall off going down the lake or waterway! Thankfully the internet is an amazing learning tool. With countless hours of research I was able to go into it confidently. I believe it turned out very well for my first time. Not perfect by any means, but I am happy as could be.
I hope that everyone who watches this video enjoys it. It has been a long time coming. Please understand that I only hope to share my experiences with others. I wish I had the knowledge to call it a how to, but the last thing I want is to mislead someone. When I started this channel one of my main goals was to be upfront and honest. Thank you so much to everyone who has watched and subscribed! As I am putting the finishing touches on this video. We are at 986 subscribers! 1000 is so close! I honestly never thought this channel would get that many subscribers, but I am so glad it has! Thank you all again!

I was lucky, I purchased a barn kept 1999.Stern drilled dry, same for the deck, though the deck has sagged between the stringers. You can see it looking down the bottom and the top...I'm running it. Factory says its suppose to weigh 660 lbs without the bow cap. She weighs 1100lbs with a T-Top,leaning post and 4 led acid batteries. Run 48mph 3/4 throttle with a Tohatsu 60 hp 4 stroke... I'd like to see the wight of yours when you are done and boating...

I wish I would have thought about weighing it before I started. That would have been interesting to know. I looked it up a while back and I believe the hull weight was supposed to be 500-600 lbs or so. I will keep a eye out for a scale around me to weigh it later in the project. Thank you for watching and commenting!

I’m about to start a project of my own. From what I can see the plywood only goes to the floor and then just ties in to it? Or did you need to run the wood all the way down to the bottom of the hull?

You are correct. The plywood stops at the deck and ties in. I was a little surprise it did not go all the way to the bottom of the hull. Good luck with your project and thank you for watching!

Tell us how much materials you have used...I did the bow of my Carolina Skiff 17ft. I use epoxy,bi-axle and some matte. Cost me 400 bucks.

I will see if I can break it down for each part of the build. I have lost track a little between the console, deck, and transom. I can say I have used a lot more epoxy than I expected. Look for it in the next skiff video. Thank you for watching and commenting!
