Great to see that screwdriver get a new lease of life, looks fantastic now, very satisfying seeing that handle just slide off ! That oil filled radiator is a good save, as you say they're heavy on the juice but they do a job ! Thanks to the Mikes and John for supporting the channel !
Hi Scout , Nice Job on the Screwdriver 🪛 ! I Actually Picked Up Sears Screwball Screwdriver in the Original Box Today ! 2.00 !I'm Happy. Ebay Wants 20 Without the Box.
That was great! I was not certain how to remove the handles but after watching this I know how to. Thanks for sharing this and all the things you got at the show.
I love that bell button! We had those in the vestbule! One of each under each brass mailbox built into the wall! Remember how it woiked?😂 Somebody rings the bell out in the vestibule and we would hit the buzzer button on the wall in the foyer that would unlock the door in the hallway! The bells always had a name in that space!
Great video 👍 That Poor Man’s Flea Market is Gold 🟨. That Comfort Zone radiator heater ♨️🌡🔥was a fantastic find, now it is ready for service if needed in a emergency. That orange 🍊/white couch did look pretty cool. I thought for sure you were going to make a handle for your screwdriver 🪛 , but when I seen those vintage Stanley handles, I thought that was a fantastic choice for that screwdriver 🪛 shank. I like that yellow and black Stanley handle , I don’t think I seen that type of handle before , but it looks like it was made for that Craftsman shank, fantastic job 👍. That was a great show and tell of those vintage items that are still in a box 📦 and look new as the day they were made. That vintage General circle cutter especially looks fantastic. That vintage Hoppes oil can looks really cool. They make a zoom spout plastic bottle Version now , plus a weather guard version. It looks like great stuff. That Stanley crowbar you got looks fantastic, just needs a little cleanup and ready for service. That Greenfield Little giant pipe wrench will be a great project for the show to see all cleaned up and maybe painted.Nice little wrench. Well again great video and can’t wait to see the special episode on Monday. I hope you have a fantastic weekend. 😄👍👍
Thanks for another great episode, Scout. Best way to start the weekend is by watching your show on Fridays and the best way to get through the week is to watch all three shows. Love how that screwdriver came out with the new handle. Have a great weekend.
I had my popcorn ready to watch you make a handle on the lathe and you open a box full of awesome handles..😂 That turned out great and look fantastic! Very smart how you removed the old one.... good stuff. Have a great weekend Mr. John
Awesome show as always! The screwdriver was great! I love screwdriver videos . Nice find on the heater and I love the old unboxings. Can't wait till monday for your video.
Love that new handle for the screw driver, makes it look quite smart and you would want to take it out and do a project using. Enjoyed the video, thanks.
Your videos are so enjoyable. In Tokyo when it is very cold we use an oil heater to blast the bedroom before sleeping. My wife hates it because of the high electric usage, but it is such a nice heat. Love the screwdriver. Thank you.
Hi John, I'm an electronics guy. All electrical heaters, of any kind, are 100% efficient. It does not matter if it is oil filled radiator, bare heating elements, or ceramic. The advantage of the oil-filled radiator like you got is safety. You can't really get burned from them and they are good around children and dumb pets. I used to really laugh at the premium "Amish" electrical heaters that were $120 or more. They might look nicer, but still just as efficient as a $15 Walmart special-all 100%. I love the channel and thanks for letting me throw my 5 cents in.
The original Amish Barn heaters had an element that was surrounded by Copper. The copper would absorb the heat and act as a catalyst to dissipate the warmth. When I was younger we had an electric baseboard heater in my porch bedroom that was a copper tube with fins allowing for greater dissipation and efficiency. A light bulb is a less efficient heat generator as it was designed for light rather than heat. They have some extremely efficient electric heaters today that will heat garages and other large areas at a fraction of the cost. 😃👍
Screwdriver came out awesome, John i live not to far from you, upper Ditmars area in Astoria and never do I see the goodies that you see on garbage night!
Nice! I use one of the oil filled radiator heaters in my shed, works great. I also have a similar circle cutter to your General, I use it at work on aircraft, mainly for instrument panels. Great tool, just be careful.
When I was buying my Carftsman hand tools during the 1970’s - I thought the lifetime guarantee was my lifetime not Sear’s lifetime. Nice job on the screwdriver.
Very appropriate to put a Stanley handle on the screwdriver since they bought craftsman. You made it better then you can buy. The rubber pedal pads still have the right chemicals in them. In the 70’s they were removed. Naugahyde had the rubber content in it. My dads chair was upholstered in 1972 and is still playable today. Today’s rubber products have a limited life span including all upholstery vinyls. Great show Thank You.
Great show! The heater was neat didn't know they operated like that, interesting. The screwdriver turned out great but I couldn't bring myself to put stinky handle in someone's car. The older doorbell and circle cutter were also neat. Thanks again and see you Monday.
Great show! That screwdriver looks fantastic. That was a nice gesture to pass along those screwdriver handles. It makes me feel the person is still with us as long as there are people who have him in their memories. When you were talking about the smell of those rubber foot pads, the very first thing that came to my mind was Harbor Freight and the next thing you mentioned was ... Harbor Freight. I know exactly what you are talking about. Have a nice weekend.
"Give me a big enough lever and I'll move the Earth"! Hey, do you thinl you could talk about clamps for a while? Maybe show the kinds to look for in terms of value etc. My dad just passed away and He had a nice collection which are now mine and my brother's.
I've three of those oil filled radiators. Two were my parent's and I've stored them for now and one was a gift from my daughter several years ago and it's right behind me in my computer/office/library room to give me an extra shot in the morning. Just this last week I switched to an LP gas cook stove (a dream for several years now) and put in a wall mounted gas heater. That is the ultimate backup as it could heat the whole house by itself. I tested it the last couple of below freezing mornings. Between a stove, outside grill and the heater, I'm confident going into winter. Now I need to work on emergency lighting!!!
Man I could smell that old screwdriver handle from here. Great job on the new one. BTW I would have taken that couch. It would have dried out. Retro lookin.
John, the couch looked like something from a bowling alley in the 70's. It should say "Brunswick" on it! :) I like the way the screwdriver turned out, sure beats the puke smell of rotten acetate handles! I have several sets of Xcelite mini nutdrivers that stink to high heaven!
The screwdriver turned out wonderful! What is it now, a Craftly or maybe a Stanman? Just axing. We have 2 of the oil heaters and I never use mine and Toots uses hers in the winter. Summer? Nope. And everything else was wonderful. Happy weekend and God Bless!
Good long video! You sort of make me look forward to Monday now, but I'm not really feeling it already 😂 glad to be done with the work week. I would love to see you dig out those old lights and doorbell:) Hope you'll have a great weekend!
I love the screwdriver looks like new. I also prefer the new handle shape to the old shape. Good that you have a stash of handles. My local Harbor Freight used to smell of rubber, but they have changed since before covid. Better lighting, re-arranged the products. Even the area with the wheels and casters does not smell of rubber these days, which is a big relief for me. Dave.
I like how the screwdriver turned out although I thought you were going to make a handle. I bought a rolling mr heat that runs on propane for twentytwo on an auction. No tank but I have one that I use for burning weeds. Don't need that in the winter. That and a carbon dioxide tester and you are in shape. It was in August when it was hot and no one thinking about winter.
Nice bow collection. I shot compound for quite a few years, but it got to the stage it was no challenge. So I went to longbow, which to me is much more fun. After a few years I can hit the side of a barn, if you put me inside, and close all the doors and windows.
I thought you would just cut that screwdriver shank just ahead of the old handle and accept the fact that the resto screwdriver would be slightly shorter. Your removal idea is slick. I assumed that the shanks and handle were one really tight molded unit and permanent. The new handle looks very nice and is more ergonomic. My first jobs as a kid were mowing lawns, and it's still enjoyable. I never had any interest 8n golf. So if you needed mowing help with your upstate property, and someone else needed a golf partner, I would gladly help with the mowing.
YES! The need for heat. just replaced my furnace. I can imagine what my light bill is going to be after a day and a half of using those cheap heaters, from the Furnace company. $9,000 dollars later I have heat again. what's this world coming to. 35 years ago, it cost me half of that to put the furnace and the duct work in. Eagle. Yes, the poor man's flea market is One of my favorite Parts of your videos. Nobody throws anything good away around here. Or even if they did, I wouldn't have any place to put it.
Hoppe’s lubricant is mineral oil, Number 9 is kerosene based. I quit buying any of that name brand stuff for firearms cleaning. I use odorless mineral spirits for a solvent and mineral oil for a lubricant.
0:59 Students at UT in Austin, Texas (University of Texas) would die to own that couch. Their school colors are Burnt Orange & White. Woods are called Drivers today.
That couch reminds me of the creamsicle ice cream. They were delicious. I tried golf once. We went to the pitch and putt at the old World’s Fair grounds. It was about 90 degrees that day and we walked from hole to hole. I said this is not my cup of tea!
I came across a screwdriver that stank like that and I cleaned the white gunk off, I think with acetone, then put on mineral oil coat, then sprayed with that shellac spray for 3 or 4 coats and it still is in good shape!
The screwdriver caught my attention, thanks for that. Question, why not give the old handle the same treatment as your "Acetate Handle" restoration of five years ago? I looked it up with a search of your channel. You mention some sort of smell. I have a whole set of Craftsman screwdrivers I inherited from an Uncle. They came out of a damp bassment. Some are in the same shape but obviously don't have the extensive number of extra handles. Would be interested in your argumentation. Thanks as always.
When they mixed those acetate handles at the factory some batches were improperly mixed and it led to clouding up and a fowl smell. I have had some that weren’t too bad and could be saved by sanding and polishing. However in some cases the mix was so off that even if you get the handle beautiful again it will cloud up within weeks. One way to tell if you’ve got a really bad screwdriver handle is by the smell. This one has a really bad smell so I wasn’t about to spend the time trying to get it to look good only to turn bad again in a couple weeks or months. 😃👍
Junk screwdriver into a thing of beauty, or as they say over here the dogs bollocks 😮 the handle you pulled off is a very common shape it's called London patent I think? Maybe some of your viewers know, can't seem to Google it. If you make a fist and look down the middle it's a five sided hole.😮
