I'd check that Albright knot. As I understand it, the thinner line comes through the loop of the heavier line, and then is wrapped over the top of itself, back towards the loop. In the video, it appears as though David is (incorrectly) wrapping the braid over the cable starting from the loop and simply wrapping away from the loop.
*We tried this out finally yesterday and it worked awesome! **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s we put it on our 16 foot aluminum boat and trolled with it. We didn’t catch anything but it was still fun and worked awesome! Can’t wait to use this baby again and hopefully reel in a big ole fish! Very easy to install and set up.*
Great video, I'm thinking of going with braid too, a few questions, what's the difference between the 2 braids Scotty sells? PREMIUM BRAID and low drag? And if I switch to braid, will my Scotty release clips that attach to the stainless steel cable still work with the braid. I'm a little nervous because my Fish Hawk will be attacked to this down rigger.
That works on a Scotty with a bead stop but on a Cannon and others that use a electrical field system that stops the cable when the ball breaks the surface, braid won't work with the auto stop. Wonder how many people found this out when on the retrieve the ball hit the pully and snapped the line to deep six the ball and gear.
I've got to do this, I let my Canon balls roll around in my transom well. they broke off. when you're attaching the end of braid with the large loop, to the ball, do you have a picture or diagram of that? that part isn't real clear to me. thanks glad I found this I subbed.
Anyone heard of having to replace the line guide and end roller when changing to braid because the cable would have "roughed it up" therefore may damage the braid? Cheers
What lb braid are you using I have 100 lb on my fishing pole reals now that seem to never break. Would 100 lb be sufficient for the down-rigger aa well?
Hi. I got the same downrigger as you. Dont you find it a little flimsy? I am kinda worried about the retrieve button part, seems to be made not very solid. Please let me know of your experience?
From 4:20 on you should have gone to a close up, and showed and explained what you were doing in more detail, you never say why you made a 3 foot loop, and what was that you tied to the ball.
