In previous videos I replaced the air con condenser and regassed the system with R134A refrigerant. The air conditioning was briefly functional before the compressor failed rather spectacularly. In this video I fit a replacement used but genuine compressor, along with both poly-v belts.

Do you remember what size aircon belt you used? Im trying to get a gates 4pk738 on and it looks nowhere near big enough! Great video cheers!

Hi, absolutely fantastic video! My compressor went bad last year. I have been quoted around £750 for new compressor, belts and regas. I was under the impression that the engine had to be lowered using special extension bolts, then disconnecting pipes and electrical plugs from the rear of the engine. Which after watching your video, it shows a much, much easier way. I initially thought it was the clutch plate spinning and making the grinding noise, but I was able to swap that over with the engine in place, but unfortunately, the noise was still there. Could you tell me how long it took you to do that job. Many thanks.

Just came from the mechanics to see if he can add some freon but unfortunately he said my compressor is no good. Is there anything you recommend i do before i buy a replacement? Or in your opinion, just get the compressor?

I think I’d ask further questions in terms of how he arrived at that decision and in what way he thinks it has failed. Air conditioning systems do not like long periods of inactivity and if it has been defective a while or if the system has had a leak and been open to elements a while, it can happen.

How will you check for leaks? What if there is one at the fittings? Can you reach them once back all assembled?

A vacuum will be pulled and held prior to recharging system. Just like any other replacement component, we can only take standard precautionary measures such as replacing o-rings as I did. There is dye in the PAG oil which should highlight any leaks with use of UV lamp.

I believe the poly-v belt replacement interval to be 60.000 miles (100,000 km) on the 84bhp. I’ve never seen one snap!

Pero tengo una dura respectó a este funcionamiento de esta pieza y ya la cambié 2008 - 2015 Smart Fortwo Secondary Air Injection Pump O...será que me dice cómo es por que cada mañana que enciendo el carro esa pieza empieza a funcionar y se para después de unos segundos
