Happy 2017, y'all! Here's a little project I undertook a while back, thankfully it worked and I can even use the C-Stick for Sm4sh. You can grab replacement PSP nubs here: www.amazon.com...
The thing really works good imo though for what it is. When i first saw it i was like 'that thing is going to be a pain to use'. But recently i finally picked up a 3ds and i was surprised how well it functions.
I did this cause it was a pain to press down/right brand new. Everything is super responsive now! This is the best bang-for-your-buck mod I've ever experienced. No regrets and sweet video man!
I did a bit of googling around because of how irritating the c stick was to me... And it's simply amazing the numbers of fanboys saying there is nothing wrong with it. It's absolutely horrible thanks for sharing this!
I bought a second-hand N3DS and there's this little issue with the C stick. It seems to be slightly up ALL THE TIME. When it is idle, it's still inside the dead zone, but when I move it to the sides there's this SLIGHT movement up. Also, it's quite easy to push it up, but I need extra force for it to detect anything down. I'm gonna try to swap it with the pad of my dead PSP and hopefully it'll fix my issue
Hey man, thanks a lot for the tutorial video! I got a used New (used new?) Nintendo 3DS and I have issues pushing the C stick down and I thought I bought a bad one. Glad I am not the only one with this issue. I just ordered a couple PSP thumb sticks and will be using your video as guidance, thanks!
i've been playing smash 3ds for a little bit over a year (with a few short on and off periods) and i only jsut found out about the c-stick for smash attacks today... >w>
Great little video man.. appreciate content from someone that feels more like myself then the "professionals" out there making their stupid vids. ;-) Was exactly what I needed to see to fix my boys console. CHEERS.
Honestly, your C-stick looks like you've been pushing it too hard. It's not a laptop nub, it's more like a PS4 touchpad. I was worried mine was gonna eventually end up like yours but it seems too unlikely with the way I've been using it. Good tutorial though, I'll definitely keep it bookmarked in case something happens to my C-stick.
What Sony did with the PSP was stupid not using two thumb analogs was a huge error in design??? Saga also did the same with the DreamCast ??? Then Nintendo goes and does the same thing BUT even worse they then add a second analog but make it a rubber laptop mouse nub!!!! Who runs these design teams, are they all related and if so FIRE THEM ! This is why I'm getting a PlayStation Vita I can't stand the DS designs they handicap the player.
Yeah I'm slowly getting same problem. But I don't mind this stick, it feels kinda nice. I played a lot on PSP few years ago so it's cute modification that I'll happily do
I respect you for not just ripping it out with knives or scissors like I see a lot of people doing. It shows you respect the hardware too. I have a quick question though. Does the PSP nub thing ever come off from routine usage? Or has it ever come off when you opened up the 3DS after not using it?
Thanks for the comment! And for reminding me I even *have* a 3DS. c_c I seriously haven't even touched it since I got the Switch just over 2 months ago, so when I got your comment I checked the 3DS. The nub is still fine, still functional...even after 60+ days of inactivity! Even when I using it regularly for MonHun and Sm4sh, I didn't have any issues once it clicked in place.
Taking apart my New 3DS non XL and I can only find 7 screws instead of the 8 on an XL. What am I missing? I'm just trying to replace the c stick. Please help.
Xender It was either a 00 or a 000, but yeah it was a Philips Head bit. The tool is made by Husky and has been invaluable for my console and PC tinkering. :)
Does this still work? Or did you ever run into trouble with this mod like other people have? With the stick not being as responsive, dents, or does what it wants.
I actually started a new game on MonHun4 recently and the mod still works...it could be that others didn't "seat" the pad properly. With the 3DS being effectively retired I imagine this isn't going to be a priority for Nintendo to find a fix..they can't even keep Switches on the shelves and even THOSE have issues with drifting...Nintendo really forgot how to make good joysticks......
I have acidic oils in my hands... my C-stick is less than a rounded off slanted nub at this point. Poor thing melted away. Luckily I have a psp and will be replacing it soon.
You'll need what's called a "tri-wing" screwdriver, easily found on Amazon or your local hardware store (the multi-tool I use here is from Home Depot).
Nope...the PSP stick fits snug enough over the "diamond" that it almost snaps in place. Even now it still functions, though I've little reason to play my 3DS anymore because of the Switch.
i swear i don't know what the bloody hell i wrong with nintendo. switch's joycons drift like hell, now this stupid nub is straight up bullshit, why can't they just do a decent controller??
Rèngár This is the New 3DS XL, but if I can find an inexpensive way to get my hands on a normal New 3DS, as well as a New 2DS XL...I'll do another video
Legend of Rafi That's how it should work, yeah...by default the C-nub is set to Smash Attacks. There is no in-between with that...you attack or you don't.
Fendera actually I'm pretty glad I changed it. You'll get used to it and far better used to it than the original c-stick. I'm sure you'll come to appreciate the mod too.
well its all good the cut method works just as well plus if you have a spare rubber c stick in case you want to switch back but at least my 3ds looks even better

ShinRaphael I actually did have the CPP for my 3DS XL and it was so much better...Nintendo is peerless when it comes to innovation and creativity, but hopeless when it comes to function and accessibility. They had SEVERAL chances to release a 3DS with a second Circle Pad and fucked up everytime, even with the New 2DS XL.
you can have your nnid transferred back onto a classic 3ds if you ask nintendo support but keep in mind you will lose all your data. and may i add the classic one and not the xl one since its smaller and better. well in my opinion. would you like to hunt on mhgen? i recently got a charmer 7 ooo charm and now i need ex golden lune armor pieces
ShinRaphael I think the CPP is far superior to the PSP stick, which is why it makes me mad Nintendo never put a second Circle Pad on the 3DS even to this day
