Thank you so much for this tutorial! It's selfless people like you that help us weekend mahcanics feel more confident at tackling tasks like this, where we would otherwise just leave it to a mechanic to do. You saved me about $700 in labour cost with this video. No step was left out, perfect attention to detail, and it was straight to the point!

Another thankful DIYer. Amazingly helpful video. I changed the radiator out 8 months ago thanks to your video, and plan to use it again as a recap for a cracked innercooler that I just discovered. Hopefully that’s the reason my MaF sensor keeps throwing code and it feels a little underpowered when I get into the throttle! Thank you so much again. Liked and subscribed!

The plastic reservoir to the side of my '07 D5 has cracked after bending the skid plate while off roading. I was planning on removing the radiator to repair the crack but after seeing this I think I'll try any and everything else first. My goodness, of coarse Volvo made it as complicated as possible. Great video though, clear & concise instructions. Thank you

Thanks for posting this video. I found it easier to install bleeder hose to top driver side of radiator by installing the 2-12mm bolts from bottom just enough to hold radiator which allowed me room to install hose and New clamp from top, also while in was in this position I installed upper and lower hose b4 bleeder hose and added coolant to reservoir which allowed me to bleed system of air. Also since trans cooler was hanging in my way I decided to remove the one line holding cooler and removed all together which allowed more room to clear a/C line on driver side. But thanks to your video I was able to do it in 2 hours and made 300$ for labor.

Question: Firstly, best video on the internet. Secondly, (2003 XC90) had the radiator completely very loose and on it's way out, however on the passenger side there was "no way" that it was going to come down through the rigid steel cartridge and rigid AC lines blocking the bottom end about six inches from the edge inward on the passenger side. Anyone's thoughts?

Very thorough demonstration. Now I know why I'm being charged almost 5 hrs labor and $500 for a radiator replacement. I still think I'm paying too much but at least I know it's not a DIY project for me. Great video. Thanks for posting.

Hello Sir i am from 🇩🇪 thanks for sharing your video i got an 2.4 AvD do you think I can pull the radiator from the top? I’m not sure you said in your video it must be pulled up from the bottom but I think I have enough space do you think it is possible it is a xc90 year 2004 2,4 diesel for me. It looks like I have enough space because the engine is not that big like yours in your video.

Do you need to burp the radiator? I've heard it's a good idea to do so, once a radiator is replaced. Thanks and keep doing a great job!

Do you know if most of this video will apply to a 2005 XC70? How much vertical clearance is required to drop the radiator out the bottom?

Hi, Great video. Any way to remove the fan shroud without having to drop the whole radiator? It looks like the two bolts holding the fan are pretty high up close To the cowling and leaves little to no space to slide fan up and remove...

4:31 where is it leaking from right there? So to the left of that, where the raditor is at, there is that metal piece right there. I have an issue on my Volvo and it is leaking coolant from there I am unsure if it is the radiator or whatever that piece is called.

On the "passenger side" there seems to be a steel cylinder and some rigid steel lines that I believe are part of the AC, of which these are all blocking the radiator assembly from dropping down on the passenger side. Any thoughts? 2003 Volvo XC90 2.5L Turbo AWD Base Engine. -best, -hg

Harvey Gordon it’s either the oil cooler or the AC condenser lines. I would look for mounting spots where they may still be bolted up in Bolton you don’t wanna disconnect the lines because I’ll release the Freon but look for the hard mounting spots it may still be attached. After that you should be able to float the AC condenser why are you slip the radiator. Unless it’s a different model than the one I’m doing.

I need to repair a leak that’s suddenly sprung at the top of the radiator tank when the mechanic did a compression test. He said I need a new radiator… jeez! Can’t I just repair the leak near the hose connection with a kit?!

Like they have some sort of magical touch, many mechanics are happy to charge premium rates for such a job, when sensible prep and patience will allow for a 2 - 3 hour job. And be sure that the Volvo dealership would skin you alive given the chance.

You keep saying that the line's you did remove i think are the engine oil cooler lines. I have oil in my radiator and no coolant in my oil. Those lines are the only way this can happen.
