Excellent work! For rev 2.0 however, the cores are either 2.0 or 2.5 mm thickness. Currently, I have my thermal pad installed at 2.0 mm thickness, works great but I’ll be swapping to 2.5 mm to see if there’s any significant improvement else I revery back to 2.0 mm thermal pad thickness. I’ll be adding 3.0 mm thermal pad for the backplate and a couple of miniature heatsinks to see if I can further improve the temperature. Also, you got too much thermal paste!

Having the same card i thought i could use your measurements but 3mm on the core was to high and resulted in very little contact and temps of 105 at load. Luckily i had enough 1mm left so i did a 1+1 stack around the core and got my normal temps back. Glad to be rid of those leaky stock pads but i saw no change in temps. I have the Rev 1.1 model, that might be it.

Any particular reason you used cheaper pads on the mosfets and capacitors? Also what was the w/mk of the cheaper pads? Your temps are insane. Got to do this to my gigabyte gpu as well. I assume you need firmer pads back there seeing as they are only 1mm or maybe it was just a money thing lol
@hardcoreprogrammingwarrior7036
@hardcoreprogrammingwarrior7036 2 года назад
not a money thing, for mosfets and capacitors I used 1mm because that is the required thickness any higher than that would cause a problem. the Thermal Grizzly brand is not cheap as well. im not really sure but thermal grizzly pads are around 8.0 W/mk. Also, I run out of thermal grizzly so one of the 1mm is a cheap pad.

@@jackson159 Well in my case I ordered 2mm pads where exactly 2mm was required. The pads came squished in shipping I guess and half the pad was about 1.6mm and the other half exactly the 2mm. You have to measure your pads with a digital caliper to know exactly what you're putting in your gpu, if your entire pad came compress from 2mm to 1.6mm you need to send that back and reorder, or order and additional 0.5mm pad to make up for the difference.

Hello, I have the same card, the 3070 ti master GV-N307TAORUS M-8GD and found the sizes are different to this video. I'd suggest not only use a measuring tool (super cheap on ebay/amazon etc.), but if you have the money, buying the same pad thickness from multiple brands so you can put them side-by-side, as they are incredibly inconsistent and using the incorrect size can make the card significantly worse.

For such an expensive card i prefer to do not touch at my graphic card that has 5 year warranty and wait till it die and receive a new one when it will instead of disassemble it and lose my warranty and receive nothing when it will die, just think about it.

that is the best option to go

I kinda envy that you live in a place where 5 year warranty is a thing. If you ruin your card by mining it's 95% it won't be covered anyhow here. Since it's easy to say what was the cause. 24/7 mining has it's signs. So imo it's better to take care of your card yourself. If it has no issues first couple of weeks then it's not defective and the rest is on you.

@@Aquve lol you think that playing 4-6 hours per day is better for the card? It will heat many more with game playing as with mining and I doubt that they will see the différence between gaming a lot and mining, and who said that i mine 24/7 lol, and yes il will do what il want and not touch my card and don't loose my warranty. Did you ever have to return a dead graphic card in your life?????

@@mightywizard7212 I had a dead rx480 and couldn't do it coz it was bought as a present in US. Believe it or not but in a lot of countries the warranty is covered by the shop you buy it in. If you send a dead card they will try to diagnose the problem. If it's been mined on 24/7 it'll have leaked thermal pads and other signs that it wasn't just used for casual gaming. In that case they state that you used it in not appropriate way and they can't replace it. And that's over for you. Manufacturer will always say to contact local reseller for warranty and you're out of luck. Gpu shortages and price increase doesn't help either. That's why you see these videos of all over the place for the same reason. It's easier to take care of it yourself than let it die and expect it to be replaced.

@@mightywizard7212 And by the way thermal pads replacement is very easy. People are actually forced to replace them with hand made copper pads on hot cards(3080,3090). That could easily short circuit your board if done incorrectly. And guess what, it's still worth doing in most cases. Provided you're actually mining 24/7 ofc.

OH my god, there's so much wrong with this, it's hard to know even where to start. Don't do this. 1. "leaking oil" lol, they're fine. 2. Wrong thermal interface material. Congratulations, now it needs to be changed because you fell for marketing. I know exactly what the factory TIM is, and it never needs to be changed. 3. Way too much, but that's not dangerous. Just stupid. The whole point is to have direct metal contact on most of it. 4. NEVER and this is THE key rule with pastes, NEVER try to "spread" it. Just put a dab in the middle. It spreads completely on its own. Spreading only introduces the chance for air gaps to be trapped as the surface CANNOT be flat. This has been proven countless times with glass tests. 5. Wrong pads, despite what you think. That affects mounting pressure and evenness of the copper cold plate. Watch GamersNexus testing of that on CPUs to see what problems you're causing. Watch Northwest Repair to hear about why you don't use the wrong pads.
