You can use walnut shells if you put them in the toe of pantyhose first and stitch it closed to make a hacky sack. This was great Misty...thank you so much for all the great ideas!🧵

I filled mine with small sea shells that I had collected yrs ago and never knew what to do with them. Now I am reminded daily of the first vacation my husband and I ever took to the beach.

This would be a great item for storing hand sewing supplies to use while traveling. The jar would fit nicely in the cup holder of the car and pins would stay secure and be handy!

Very cute ❣ Tie a little bow when giving away to sewing friends and it's wrapped. Use a little bigger Mason jar and also add a MSQC gift card inside along with the other goodies 😉💖

Great Going away to College gift...safety pins, small scissors, rubber bands, paper clips, sewing needles and thread, you can even prethread a few needles for quick repairs, measuring tape, small command hooks, whatever your imagination can add, thumb tacks, push pins, scotch tape etc. Use a quart size jar so they have all those little necessities at hand in one place. Call it a ‘Junk Jar’ instead of a junk drawer. 😁

I think this would be great for cross stitching! Hold the floss for current project and somewhere to stash the needle! With the large jar could even hold small scissors. Thanks for this idea!

You could always make a circle pillow with the walnut shells and cover that with your favorite 5 inch square.

We tend to accumulate buttons all over the house. This would be a good idea to let everyone in the house know where to put their buttons along with some thread and a sewing needle so they can take care of putting on their own buttons! I’m thinking of some special place in the kitchen for the go to jar!

I have one of these to travel with me and I keep my pins in the jar then use them at a sew day, class, or club and then can safely pack the pins back up to bring home.

Love this idea. Every year I make a gift for each holiday for each of the women in my office. One year I made pumpkins with holiday themed fabrics. This year I have been making gnomes. Now I know what I will be making for next year's gifts! I will fill the jars with candy, cookies, or other holiday trinkets.Thank you once again MSQC for a great idea.

I think this would also be cute to use your orphan blocks or test blocks that didn’t work out for a quilt for whatever reason. I would put some EPP papers, thread, needles and rubber needle puller, I use the small for my thimble to get a perfect fit. Then I would have a perfect pin cushion for a to go project on the run!🪡🧵📍

I would put candy such as skittles or jelly beans in the jar. I can picture a little garden using a silk flower and leaves. Maybe glue a little bee on the flower or set a tiny animal in there to make a mini scene. And of course sewing notions are always great.

Sudden brain glimmer: Use doubled quilting thread to do the running stitch. It's very strong and won't break when you're cinching it around the small cardboard circle. 🙂

Great project! Already planning to make one for myself (of course) and fill the jar with a package of my 80 & 90 machine. Sometimes I need to change needle sizes on a project, but only "gently use" the changed needle (like making a table runner and using a 90 to do the binding). My "gently used" needle can then be stuck in the pin cushion to be used once again, but it isn't put back in the brand new needle package. And what a great Christmas gift for quilting friends. A quilter can ALWAYS use another pin cushion! And I can also use them when I'm doing hand wool applique ..... oh! the possibilities! THANK YOU, MISTY!!

Use a solid green or red fabric and fill the jar with holiday candy for Christmas. If you used green you could fill the jar with Easter candy! Using a solid fabric makes the pin cushion more universal!

Glue some felt ears to the top of the pincushion and add a pom pom tail and button eyes to make a rabbit. Then fill the jar with sewing notions for quilters and jelly beans for all the "others".

For safety you can find plastic jars that a mason lid will fit on, at least then if you drop it the jar will not break an make a mess. also if you have some of the jars already you can just go buy ring and lid sets and do this. If you are going to use it a travel sewing storage it is less weight to carry with you
